If there is a season this year then Steckel will likely be on the team, but relegated to the pressbox as the 13th forward on a fairly regular basis as an extra player and injury replacement. IMO

McClement is the new toy Carlyle has at his disposal and he will use him in many roles within the bottom 6 and on the PK, as most of what he brings makes Steckel's former responsibilities replaced and improved upon.

Agreed

Ok. The problem here is that you said that you wanted to roll with three scoring lines. Bozak only got 29 assists last year playing with one of the elite snipers in the league. How many helpers will he have feeding Fratts and Kulemin instead of Kessel and Lupes?

I think that Bozak is equal to McClement offensively but weeker defensively (weeker, not week). The only reason that he has a spot on the team going forward is his chemistry with the top line.

Disagree with bozak having less offensive production (or equal). Plus bozak know his job is to feed kessel and lupul, he would be much more inclined to do more on a seperate line apart from them.

Over time I see Bozak moved down the roster (if he remains in Toronto) to the 3rd line pushing McClement officially into the 4th hole on the roster at center, with ideally a #1 C eventually obtained.
Assuming that happens couldn't Steckel be traded for draft pick? As for everything else I agree with you.

Is it possible that we could lose three centers (Steckel, Connolly, Bozak) in acquiring McCl & Lu/making room for Kadri, and still not have a 1C?

we won't lose bozak or steckel. steckel is solid bottom 6 in limited minutes and PK. bozak is good... just not a #1. for the right price, i'd keep em' both.

Winning face offs should be an underrated stat. It doesn't always lead to possession (it can only lead to possession for a brief time), and most of the time there's no goals scored on a face off. If Steckel's face off wins meant goals he would have a heck of a lot more points than what he usually does. At least McClement can win face offs, check, and play the PK well. If the leafs feel that Steckel's is that important of a piece than I'm afraid there will never be room for Kadri.

*Yes. Toews wins face offs, but he's an amazing player with good line mates.

WTF. Guy joins yesterday. Bumps a 10+ year old thread. Smh. Also same person who can't read street signs, can't tell time unless it's digital and eats microwave dinners that are frozen because he can't follow instruction.

LOL at the bump, but yeah I hated this time. Toronto 3rd liners era.

This thread is an example of why we need to stop complaining about Nylander and Marner and their salaries.

2012 has entered the chat
Headline on one of those Maple Leaf centric citizen journalist sites today

"The 10 worst scandals in MapleLeafs history"

I guess someone's trying to get those negative juices flowing already.

I can't wait for the first 3 game losing streak of the season and watch 4 or 5 of those "10 worst trades in Leafs history" light up the web. Feschuk already has his written I suspect.

Jay McClement was a very good 4th line C. That has nothing to do with the 2 names you mentioned.
