Is Crosby still number 1?

McDavid doesn't show up in the playoffs. He has only 9 playoff points in 3 seasons.

Crosby had 21 in 12 games last season. When Crosby decides it's time to try he still rips the league apart.

Lmao you realize the Oilers have only made the playoffs in one of those seasons, right?

So what you are saying is McDavid is not good enough to lead his team to the playoffs?

I agree with you actually, Crosby is still King.

Pair him with Malkin and he'd made it easy.

That's like putting McDavid and Matthews on the same team.

Malkin and Crosby don't play together. Malkin is like Dagestan and Crosby is like Chechnya. In the same neighborhood, say hit to each-other, share similarities but are separated.

Crosby is king. 21 points in 12 games last year, McDavid 9 in 3 seasons. No contest.

It's better if you don't play together because it causes match up nightmares for other teams, they can't just zero in and game plan for one line.

Crosby in his first playoffs had 5 points in 5 games, but was shut out in the pivotal game 4 and 5 as the Pens were ousted by the Senators. That was about a 0.5 ppg drop off from his regular season PPG.

McDavid's drop off was virtually identical.

Gretzky also had a fair sized drop off from his regular season stats to his first playoffs.

Playoffs take some time to adjust to even for great players. When McDavid is 27/28/29, I would naturally expect higher playoff numbers for him because he'll be a much more mature player by that time.

No one "masters" playoff hockey by age 20.

By the time Corsby was McDavids age he was a cup champion, blowing apart the league in the playoffs and sprinting to the finish in the regular season smoking his closet comparable by 20+ points.

McDavid has scored 9 points in the playoffs in 3 seasons.

And Mario Lemieux didn't score a single playoff point until his what? 5th or 6th season?

No one player makes the playoffs magically on his own. The Penguins are a playoff team without Crosby, they've made the playoffs in year's where he's missed tons of games.

Your career is not defined solely by your first 4 seasons in the league either.

Crosby 27 points in 20 games to lead the playoffs in scoring.

5th. And he got 168 points the season prior and still didn't take his team to the playoffs....WTF?! Maybe people should get off Connor's ass...

You said 20 years old.

He had a year in the playoffs to adjust and know what playoff hockey was about. If the Oilers somehow get in this year (and if they do the NHL should give him 2 Hart trophies) I would bet McDavid's playoff numbers are higher than his first go around.

First year is an adjustment period, even Gretzky saw a large drop in his production first time in the playoffs.

Judging a player by his first playoff experience is stupid.

McDavid is obviously the most skilled player in the league, and tearing it apart right now... but to win one game or a playoff series, do you pick him over Crosby? Sid has been the best player when it counts every time for the past few years.

McDavid has a very good chance to end this discussion completely this year. But Sid has earned the benefit of doubt to stay in the conversation, for the time being...

Spotted Daver's second account, that was too easy.

I guess McDavid is better than Lemieux also, took lemieux untill his 6th season to make playoffs.

I didn't realize McDavid and Crosby were the GMs of their teams.

Just curious, do you think the Oilers make the playoffs with Crosby instead of McDavid?
