With the Pens clinching 2nd in the Metro, there is no reason to ice Crosby especially that it will take 5 goals from Kucherov to beat him for the Rocket.

So with that in mind the last 3 seasons
88 in 74
85 in 78
84 in 77

I know the league has changed and all, but is he now basically an 80 point player?

With his current linemates? Probably

Crosby's producing at a 97 point pace this season. He produced at roughly a 87 point pace last season (100+ point pace after Sullivan was hired), and 89 point pace the prior year.

OP asks if Crosby is an 80 point player at this point.

Thread might have more validity if the question was whether he was a 90 point player nowadays. Because his production is well above what the OP is asking.

Well, no.

He's scored more than 80 points and will likely hit 90 again this season. How can you say someone is an 80 point player when they're getting 85+?

It makes no sense.

80 point player = 80-89 pts
70 point player = 70-79 pts

etc

If Sid plays next season the entire year with Guentzel and Sheary (ie. none of the three misses any more than about 5 games), I will put any money that Crosby flirts with a 100 point season. He may not quite reach it, but he'll only miss out by ~5 points.

His current linemates are actually pretty damn good. It was that month or so with Kunitz killing the line that saw his totals drop this year. So as long as Kunitz isn't flanking Crosby next year, I'd be absolutely shocked if he was "just an 80 point player".

Except he has scored 88 points so far this season and is on pace for 90+

How does that make him an 80 point player?

Pace doesn't mean anything

Last 3 seasons are all 80, 80. 80 range.

Stamkos was on pace for 96 points. Let's call Stamkos a 95+ point player this season. Deal?

The lowest pace he's had in the last three seasons you posted was 89 points (85 in 78), yet you think he's an 80 point player?

90pt player that still has 100pt season potential, but he (and his team) have to stay healthy in order for it to happen.

With Guentzel and Sheary?

No way. With Kunitz? Yes.

Sheary is 3rd in Points per 60 and Guentzel 6th!

Granted I don't watch Penguins games to say this with any validity, but is it not very possible that their pp/60 are that high because of Crosby?

75+ game sample size vs. like 15? C'mon, you can't be serious

If you really want to go ppg or total points, is Stammer closer to a 96pt player or a 20pt player?

Crosby's last three seasons (inc. this season) were 84, 85 and 88. That's more than 80...

The difference between your Stamkos point and Crosby is that Crosby will hit 90 points in the remaining two games. Even if you ignore the 6 he missed in October. And Stamkos has only played, what, 15 games?

Stamkos hasn't hit 90 points in ages.

I'll list the linemates of Crosby's in recent seasons who've put up similar even strength numbers as Guentzel and Sheary to show that it's all due to Crosby:

Stamkos isn't a 90 point player because has never hit that.

Well that's not true... He has hit 90+pts 3 times.

No, I think the fact that he's finally finding chemistry with new players will be a bigger benefit next season. Sheary missed time and so did Guentzel after he became a permanent fixture with him. Imagine if McDavid lost Draisaitl for 20 games like Sheary. Points drop when your main fixture on your wing is suddenly not there.

Sid has never had wingers that think the game almost as close as he does, Guentzel definitely does and Sheary finds Sid almost as much as he does.

Calling Stamkos a 95+ point player is probably still closer to the truth than calling him a 20 points player.
