Is Crosby dropping the ball again?

His struggles in the 3rd and 4th round compared to what is expected from him are well known and he hasn't gotten off to a good start here.. in 3 games so far he has 0 points (actually I just saw he scored tonight when it was 5-0.. so uh whatever that is worth)

Do you think he is dropping the ball again? Just a slump? Why does he have a tough time in the later rounds?

Dropping the ball again? How's that again? The guy has two cups, three finals and a Smythe with two other "Smythe worthy" runs.

He's a complete disappointment. Not quite as bad as last year though when he only won the cup and the Conn Smythe. What a loser.

The guy with 152 pts in 138 playoff games?
His two cups and Conn Smythe must be weighing him down...
C'mon now, it's only game 3

I think the Washington series took a lot out of the Penguins. Shame the stupid format put the 2 best teams against each other in the second round.

Yeah because the team they're playing against definitely didn't have to go through two physical rounds of playoffs before playing the Pens, they got two bye rounds and got to play the FINISHER role of the poor victim Penuins..

What is the breakdown of Crosby's points per round?

2011-2017 playoffs
1st round 0.409 gpg, 1.313 ppg
2nd round 0.292 gpg, 0.750 ppg
3rd & 4th 0.200 gpg, 0.500 ppg

2006-2017 playoffs
1st round 0.509 gpg, 1.453 ppg
2nd round 0.372 gpg, 0.977 ppg
3rd round 0.348 gpg, 0.870 ppg
4th round 0.158 gpg, 0.684 ppg

I lumped the 3rd & 4th rounds together in the recent sample, because otherwise the 4th round (SCF) sample is too small.
Over Crosby's full career, there is a big drop in his production outside of the first round, but round 3 does not look as bad. Recently, round 3 does look bad (4g+2a in 14 games).

Curious as to his actual production per series. Other them 1 good game against the jackets he was barely noticeable, don't remember him standing out against the caps other then his "concussion" he missed a whole game there and in 3 games he has a whole 1 goal here.

I mean, the guy had a concussion in the second round and only missed one game. It wouldn't surprise me if he's playing with some other nagging injury as well. Also, this is playoff hockey, and it's not exactly unheard of for a top player to be targeted and shut down by the opposition, which is why depth in the playoffs is so important.

(if context matters, I'm a Coyotes fan who pretty much wanted the Penguins eliminated the moment the playoffs started, so please don't try to paint me as a Crosby fangirl who's trying to defend him at all costs, I'm just stating what I've observed)

if he's considered "dropping" the ball in the 3rd round, what does that make players who didn't even get past the 1st round like Toews and Patrick Kane then? epic chokers?

please answer my question.
