With Philadelphia acquiring Seth Jones, New Jersey clearly had to do something to compete.

To Anaheim: NJD 1st round pick 2020, Ty Smith
To New Jersey: Hampus Lindholm

Been busy the last couple of days. Still on the hunt for a top 6 winger, had one discussion but nothing imminent. Also looking for a 1b goalie/solid, proven backup. We have young assets like Jost available plus all futures not named Byram and Makar. Not too keen on moving Timmins either but we will depending on the winger and their current contract status.

On another note, we re-signed Mikko Rantanen. 6 years @ 9.7m full NMC. I’m assuming since this was already approved by the RFA agent that this is what I’ll be using?

Yes, considering that the game was started before the signing in real life.

We have pretty much two deal in place for Petry but that can’t be completed right now due to other teams cap situation. The first one to figure things out will likely get him, but it’s not too late to jump in with your offer.

We are still exploring trade options foe Chiarot (retention possible) or Kulak.

:habs

Still this. Things were quiet yesterday, a few trade talks but nothing serious.

Still looking to add either another winger or a LD. Have had few talks and few offers sent out. Still open to anything though.

Pierre Lebrun : Flyers are really active today in their search for a top 9 C. They will have to be very creative with their cap situation.

Still around - trying to move Mike Condon's contract. Willing to give up a decent pick in order to do so.

Hearing some rumors that the Bolts have acquired a top-pairing RHD. Cap is tight but they're making it work. There is also some hint of Brayden Point possibly becoming available, as the new GM is not fond of how the negotiations went... Price to pay will be massive, though.

Hearing they're also actively shopping Killorn and Shattenkirk, although the NTCs are making deals difficult.

Justin Schultz is available as a rental. Hornqvist and Gudbranson are available for pretty cheap. Both can still play. We’re just not going to have any cap space next season.

Bolts acquire Jeff Petry

cut.jpg

In a blockbuster deal, the Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired RHD Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens and GM @Dichow Stopper . Petry reported waived his L-NTC for Tampa, and is "ecstatic" to become a part of the Lightning. "They're a fantastic team, as everyone knows, and hopefully I can help bring a Cup to Tampa", he said regarding the move. Petry is expected to play on the top pairing with Norris winner Victor Hedman, as well as becoming a PK staple.

Tampa Bay is also acquiring goalie Charlie Lindgren.

The Habs are acquiring several strong pieces for the future: Alex Barré-Boulet, a 22-year-old center prospect who's put up gaudy numbers in both the QMJHL and the AHL. His 34 goals with the Syracuse Crunch tied for the league lead in goals and were the most by any AHL rookie. He also finished 6th in points in the AHL last year. Additionally, the Habs acquire a conditional 1st round pick (they will receive the highest pick owned by Tampa in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft) as well as a 2021 2nd round pick owned by Tampa. Jan Rutta and Mike Condon are also moving to Montreal due for cap purposes.

In a separate move, Tampa has sent down Gemel Smith, Cory Conacher, and Charlie Lindgren. All are currently in on AHL rosters.

Trade Alert!

:wings Acquire Miles Wood

:devils Acquire Washington's 2020 2nd, Detroit's 2021 3rd round pick conditional upon Wood scoring 25 goals in the 2019-20 season.

We paid a solid price for Wood, but we believe he can put up good numbers playing alongside fellow speedster Andreas Athansiou. If Wood scores 25+ goals and we trade the 3rd, it's a clear win for us. If not, we still acquire a speedy top-9 forward.

Pleasure doing business with you @Classic Devil

Moving Petry was the more difficult decision we had to make at the trade deadline. He is a great defenseman and he brought a lot to our team in the last few years. However, he was likely not coming back after the 20-21 season and we didn’t want to repeat the mistakes of the past where we let some top players leave in free agency while not getting anything in return. We made roster space to bring in Suzuki, Poehling and Fleury this season and we will have to do the same next year for Brook and Romanov. Brook is expected to replace Petry next year and we think that Kulak can get the job done until the end of the season. Obviously, we are pleased with the return we got. Barré-Boulet is a Quebec born player who fits our team identity with his speed and work ethic. We believe that he is NHL ready and he will get the chance to prove it as soon as next game. We were also able to get two high picks in the next two drafts, which could give us trade options for the offseason.

Looking to trade our 2020 1st and Justin Braun (expiring contract) for the best two-way center I can get. Salary coming back can’t be higher than Braun.

:flyers

A lot of talks yesterday but we couldn’t get something done.

So still this, but we really like the team that we already have so a trade isn’t absolutely needed.

Bob McKenzie : I am told that after the four trades that they’ve made, the Habs are done for the trade deadline.
