Years Playing: I explained this in the Noob thread, but I've been skating since I was about 11/12, and got my first pair of hockey skates around that time too. I was in this really close knit group of kids at my local rink, and a lot of them played ice hockey and were teaching me the basics of skating. I'd consider myself a natural skater, and I was training up to play ice hockey but it was just way too expensive in the end, and my mum wasn't keen on the contact element. I'm pretty tall (5'8) and thin, so I think she thought they'd take one look at me and beat me up, haha! So I never got to play....

Since then I haven't been able to skate much, I probably stopped going regularly when I was about 16 or so. I used to skate for about 6 hours at a time every saturday. I've just recently started getting back on the ice, and have found that (predictably) my skates are blunt to the point where I can barely grip, especially when the ice is fresh. They're in getting sharpened now, so once I get them back I'm going to start skating again twice a week. I was contemplating joining a beginners hockey class, but I'm moving to New Jersey in six months and I don't really want to haul my gear on the plane. That, and the hockey scene over there is miles bigger than it is here in Australia! So I think for now I'm just gonna train my skills up again, and then join a rookie league over in the states.

So yeah! That's my story.
