I was thinking of league wide, it's true that Boston has had many great defensemen throughout their history :)
Yes, but Boston has had more than their share. Orr, Bourque, and Shore are 3 of the top 4 all time. There are more good centers. The info I'm about to quote is from the HF History of Hockey board. Top Players of All Time Lists

I'll take Zetterberg over Doug Wilson for example. There are more good centers.

bostons great centers in my life...

start with phil Esposito... hof

then I wont count ratelle who was a little past his prime but barry Pederson before his injury was maybe the best we ever had... his numbers in those 2 years compare to gretzky and Lemieux and are top 5 all time in the history of the nhl… really sad how we seem to have forgotten how badly that injury derailed his career

adam oates was the games best passer for a few years... defensively sound... and even had himself a 40 goal season... hes got to be a great

joe thornton is the top scorer in the nhl since his draft class... and was his whole career...underrated player and an all time great...

then Bergeron would be number 5... compare to dmen...

we got orr...
we got park who didnt last along time but is a little bit forgotten now
bourque… obviously he was amazing for us
and chara

so 5 franchise centers by my accounting compared to 4 dmen

going back further we have shore and clapper... and then Schmidt... not sure im missing anyone from the list... but that brings it to 6 hof franchise dmen... and should have been 6 franchise hof centers

seems to be they are around equally hard for us to find
