Voted for everyone except Shea Weber, who I think is one of the most overrated players in NHL history, but that's mostly just hope and Weber will probably get in too.

Weber is the same deal as Rob Blake, a player hugely overrated because they were huge and Canadian with big hits and hard shots even if defensively they were ... ehhhhhhh for much of their careers.

Ryan Suter > Shea Weber to me.

Suter may have been better than Weber defensively, but Weber was no slouch.

I voted for everyone except Elias and Toews.

Elias was just not that level of hockey player. The fact that people are bringing up stuff like “Devils leading scorer” and “First Czech to…” speaks to the lack of actual HHOF qualification. He was Hall of Very Good.

Toews had that brief peak as a star, but let’s be honest… if he plays in Nashville we’re not talking about him at all. He was another Very Good type center, who happened to play for a team that could give him massive media exposure through its market size and playoff success. And that might actually still get him in, but the whole sex abuse scandal really put a stink on that era and on his leadership in particular. It’s not like he has an overwhelming individual argument… his case boils down to “captain of the Blackhawks dynasty” and now there’s a shadow on that honor. I’m not sure he makes it and frankly I hope he doesn’t because he’s another Elias level candidate.

Toews is the definition of a HHoF lock
He could kill 10 people and he still gets in

3 Cups
Conn Smythe
Selke
2 Olympic gold medals
WJC gold medal
World Cup gold medal
6x all star
Youngest triple gold member ever

Yeah, even though I think he was overrated. There was a time people were legitimately arguing he was a better player than Crosby!

He made that top 100 NHL player list. He's absolutely getting in. Probably 1st ballot as well. Very naïve to think he won't, even with the scandal.

He also scowled a lot, which made some people gush over him!

And yes, Suter was a better player. But you don't hear the same calls for him getting into the hockey hall of fame. Same with players like Pietrangelo and Slavin who are also better hockey players than Weber.

Agreed, but Pietrangelo will 100% be getting into the HHOF after being the 1D on two different Cup winners.

He may very well get in, but:

- Conn Smythe and Selke are not huge needle-movers when it comes to the HHOF. Lehtinen and Datsyuk have three Selkes and are still waiting for their call. A whole bunch of non-HHOFers have Smythes, especially in this era.

- He has been to six all star games which is irrelevant. What matters is postseason All Star awards, of which Toews has only one — a second team award, at that.

^^ for the above to be his entire individual trophy case, is incredibly weak for a HHOF’er. Again, if a Slovakian Nashville Predators player had a 2nd All Star award and a Selke and a Smythe, we wouldn’t even be talking about that guy as a serious candidate.

Toews’ entire case for the HHOF comes from the additional luster he gets from Cups and medals — awards that were won on the most over-loaded rosters of his generation. His big value-add, leadership and character, is stained by his complicity in one of the biggest scandals in league history.

Will he still get in, probably, because this is the same committee that put in guys like Guy Carbonneau and Dick Duff. Toews is connected enough in the hockey establishment that they’ll give it to him regardless of whether he’s fully earned it.

He’s probably overrated as an individual player, I’ll give you that, but he is a 100% stone cold bonafide take it to the grave lock to get in

His resume is outstanding

His resume is not outstanding compared to other HHOFers. Inducting him on team accomplishments, you get a Dick Duff type of inductee.

I get your point about Elias, I think he's the most borderline case here. But this is about who will make it, not who should. The reasons you listed and the fact that worse players have been inducted are exactly why his chances of getting in are pretty good. He also has a couple of point and goalscoring finishes while being one of the better two way wingers in the league, so it's not like he was never a top player.

Heavily disagree about Toews though. Kopitar didn't receive nearly as much recognition but was still acknowledged as one of the best players in the league. The same would have happened to prime Toews in a lesser market.

Park lost Norris trophies to Orr and Potvin, not just to Orr. Weber lost Norris trophies to Lidstrom and Karlsson. Where's the shame in that?

A shred of comprehension would make it obvious I wasnt saying Park = Weber, just pointing out that an empty trophy case isnt a disqualifier. Fact remains that Park has no individual trophies and no Cups and it doesnt prevent him from being in the best to ever do it group, same way Weber has no awards or Cups and it doesn't prevent him from being a HOF'er. Not all HOF'ers are equal, there are levels to it.

& its not like he was a distant runner up. He lost by 11 & 12 votes.

Posters can still express their opinion on him. He's the only one.
That's not what's asked. There is 1 question with 1 modifier.

Question - Would they get into the hall of fame
Modifier - If they retired today

For Iggy he is both retired and in the HoF, so there is no subjectivity to it.

For the other players who have already retired the question is, will they get into the HoF right now. We can assume right now means this coming years ballot.

Overall poorly laid out poll that has 3 tiers of people that wouldn't belong in the same poll with the question and modifier; active players, retired players and players in the HoF.

If they retired today, are they HHoFers? Some of them are retired. The order is random. (Anonymous voting)

Did Brent Burns post this or somethin? You tired of work bud? You know what year we’re in, right?

Also Elias gets in, I said so. Played for Devils trap and did so to great success, just lower numbers. Underrated player, wonder when he retires.
