Would the Leafs trade Matthews for the 2023 1st overall pick straight up?

Bedard looks like a young Auston Matthews.

It would signify the eventual return of the prodigal son to save the downtrodden franchise.

The Leafs would have a Canadian franchise player on the McDavid/ Crosby level.

Could be a feel-good story for the entire hockey world.

If they feel like he won't extend in TO maybe. Even then there would have to be more involved cause AM is worth far more than a first overall draft pick. So much more and it doesn't even matter how good Bedard could be.

Feels like something that should be in the trade rumours section or TML board.

Imagine if the Coyotes fall from 1st and say Penguins get to pick in top 2.

Easy pass for the Leafs.

Why the f*** would the Coyotes after years of bad lottery luck trade their ticket to a franchise player as soon as they get it? ESPECIALLY when the player they'd trade for could be wooed as a UFA?

Easy pass for the Leafs.

Would that still be the case, if it becomes evident that AM may not be interested in re-signing in Toronto? Wouldn’t get in a 1st overall be a nice consolation, compared to letting him walk for completely nothing?

Then AM rallies Coyotes to their first title in history. What a bull.

Enough with Lanny McDonald, Enough with Scott Niedermayer, Enough with Tyler Bozak and Alex Steen, Enough with Larry Murphy, Enough with Tyler Seguin.

How many more?

If it comes to that he has a NMC that will need to be waived. He'll just go UFA if that's the case.

Nah. Cayotes are too poor for Matthews. They can't afford him. They are a Ford salary man. Matthews is a Ferrari. Arizona can dream about a Ferrari - while they drive their Ford.

Why would Matthews willingly play for a garbage team like the Coyotes? Because he was born there or something?

I kind of figured that as well.

Perhaps it would just be best if the Coyotes kept the 1st overall, and simply bring AM home as a free agent when he becomes available in a couple of years.
AM & Bedard could certainly be a fantastic duo.

I'm betting Matthews can hardly sleep in anticipation.

I've only seen Bedard for 2 games but he looks like a good player. Auston is bona fide. No way I'm trading the best Leaf in the modern era (sorry Mats, you were close, sorry Doug, it only lasted 2 years) for any player that does end with McDavid.

why trade for him when he is just going to sign with us as a FA?

(I think I'm doing this right, no?)
