They actually speculated on his availability on NHL Radio morning skate, I believe Pagnotta was the guest. With Provorov being a guy Babcock wanted, Columbus could be looking to move him especially with the salary already retained by LA

"If"? He almost certainly is on the market if the right offer is extended. The intent was always to have him as a stopgap while guys like Mateychuk and Svozil developed.

Columbus will try to get a late 1st. They should take a 2nd and 6th and buy the plane ticket

If he’s anything like he was in Philly. No.

Left side.
Top power play
Top PK
Top pairing.

Or else he wasn’t happy.
And he wasn't exactly a world beater in any of these categories. He definitely needs a great partner if on the top pairing.

No question he has offensive skills, but he is a low end top PP guy. May not have much value running PP2, but contending teams already have their PP1 groups fairly solidified. He fits on a team that is maybe looking for depth of their top 4 defenseman or fighting some injuries. He is an elite replacement for that, but isn't someone you will build into your top line of the future. CBJ will probably need to retain a little to get the value wanted out of him.

I think a late 1st and a middling prospect for Provorov (25% retained) would be acceptable to both sides. If the defenseman market is thin this will go through quickly, if a bunch of quality defenders are available the CBJ may have to retain more.

CBJ isn’t a good club because their top minute guys lack a winning culture. It’s time to move on from Provorov, regardless of the return. Just take the best offer. Addition by subtraction.

was he ever paired with ghost in phili ?
Oh yes.
But it was mostly Niskanen, Braun or Gudas depending on season.
19-20 his best season Ghost was only his 6th most frequent partner. It was basically Niskanen who left for covid after 1 good season

ive been thinking pro n ghost duo , but seeing this gets me thinking detroit might be wondering about a ghost n gudas duo as gudas is exactly what detroit needs

We've got endless Philly fans still processing their disappointment that he didn't become a #1D, but the truth is right now that Provorov is a pretty boring player. There's nothing much exciting about his game, and nothing much wrong with him either. You want a steady middle pair D? There you go.

Is he a total liability on the defensive side of the puck? How is his physicality and foot speed?

Provorov has been pretty average defensively this year. He looked above average for the first month but has seemingly lost interest / focus. It lends the impression that he doesn't want to be a Jacket.

Hits are maybe average as well. But he takes contact with ease and is extremely durable. Foot speed is high end but he isn't above average in actual speed. Too many squats.

A team would be stupid to trade a 1st for him.

But I can see someone being stupid and doing it.

Teams trade late 1sts for middle pair D, it's not that rare.

It's not rare, which is what I implied. But also, in this case it would be dumb. But dumber deals have been made at the deadline.

The fact that GMs do deals like that doesn't make it smart.

Provorov is far from perfect but if Columbus retains him down to 2.36mil for this year and next thats fantastic value no matter what you think of the player. Even at his current cap there would be some interest.

I just wonder if the team will be shy to make these moves now without a GM in place
