It worked too, the Wilkes Barre/Scranton area seems to have really embraced the big boys along with the "baby penguins". Also, it's only 4.5 hours away from Pittsburgh which isn't bad at all for an affiliate.

Absolutely...but the New York/Jersey teams, Philadelphia, Washington, and Buffalo are still closer...though Buffalo doesn't have much influence in PA outside of Erie, nor does Washington outside of the York/Harrisburg/Lancaster area.

My best friend lives in Scranton...her whole family is Yankees/Eagles/Penguins/basketball sucks. It's a great idea in that situation.

I'm not sure why it matters that other NHL teams are closer. The affiliates of those teams are within 3 hours, the baby Penguins are within 5 of theirs, nothing too bad. If the Penguins are desperate they can snag a Nailer for the day.

I was thinking for the Devils farm team, Angels would be interesting. But it would work so much better if it were reversed and the NHL team was the Angels. So you'd get called up from the Devils to play with the Angels.

For the Canucks farm team, maybe something like the Yankees, given a US location. Slang term for the national inhabitants and such.
