Which teams are going to be in the league next season?
  • Bratislava Capitals will return.
  • Orli Znojmo are apparently a question mark, allegedly the club has an argument with the city of Znojmo.
  • Dornbirn has lost its main sponsor and is lacking the fundings, so they have turned to Feldkirch (who have been trying to be admitted to the league for years) for a joint bid. A desperate attempt at short notice, it hasn't been worked out yet how this idea is supposed to actually work. Dornbirn might find themselves in the AlpsHL next season and it's not yet clear whether Feldkirch will be accepted into the ICE Hockey League either.
  • Two other AlpsHL clubs, Jesenice (Slovenia) and Asiago (Italy), allegedly want to play in the lCE HL.

Update:

Bratislava Capitals are welcome to return to the league and have time until May 15 to provide the required bank guarantee.

By now both Dornbirn and Znojmo have announced they will drop out of the league for economic reasons. Dornbirn might play in the AlpsHL next year (but that is not yet guaranteed) while Znojmo wants to participate in the third tier in Czechia with the aim of earning a spot in the second tier.

Which teams (if any) will be newly admitted to the ICE Hockey League? Feldkirch, Asiago and Jesenice are the candidates and the current league clubs will decide within a month who of them they want to admitt.

I hope Feldkirch. Classic team. Bengt-Åke Gustafsson and Thomas Rundqvist among others have played for them.

I spoke to Sisak coach today and he said that they declined for this year.
Yeah, it's more of an Olimpija's project anyway, Slavija would serve as a farm team so players could transfer between clubs freely during the season. Just like KAC, Salzburg and other Austrian clubs have farms in Alps League.

Salzburg stacking up again...as expected.

They're losing a key player in TJ Brennan (to Switzerland), but yes, they seem determined to defend their title. Meanwhile Fehervar is managing to keep its successful core together. Villach, on the other hand, hasn't exactly wowed its own fans with the off-season moves so far, especially on defence (signing Nick Plastino, 36, and re-signing Derek Joslin, 35, whose best years appear to be behind them).

Latest signings announced. The difference is striking. One the one hand you have Salzburg signing a player from DEL top team Munich, on the other hand you have two budget teams in Linz (promoting a player from the farm) and Feldkirch (signing University players).

SALZBURG:

LINZ:

FELDKIRCH/VORARLBERG:

I spoke to Danijel Kolombo and he said they (Medvescak) have plans to join Alps league within three seasons, and that they are in constant contact with Austrians.

Update: Villach fans are much more at ease now. Arturs Kulda and Nick Mattinen have been signed, Nick Plastino's contract has been terminated and a new signing has just been made official:

That, if true, is great news actually.

You need to start somewhere and AlpsLeague is a proper starting point. Zagreb is a big city, hopefully locals will find that league attractive enough to attend games, step forward and of course playing in Alps is much better for young players than Ice, that's for sure.
