Korpisalo had a .941 in 10 appearances in the bubble playoffs. He was standing on his head. He doesn't have the make-up to be a backup (and maybe not a consistent starter), but if the Oilers are looking for a goalie who might be the next Roloson, I'd look to him.

A Koskinen-Korpisalo swap might not cost the Oilers 1st outright, I'm not sure. Maybe the Jackets put a high 2nd rounder in to the deal to get the Oilers 1st.

I'd take that for 3 years easy.

I wouldn't feel the need to lock the player up as part of the trade. With the goalie market being more team friendly and goalies like Korpisalo really just interested in finding a starter job somewhere, if he is playing well in Edmonton you shouldn't have any trouble extending him later on.

If he has an excellent year as a pending UFA he could walk or stay yet use the leverage to get an even bigger deal. We will be pretty tight on cap space I'd much rather get some term at a known amount.

Okay makes sense. $3m or so isn't going to kill you either way.

Not saying he is. Oettinger would/should be a target though for Edmonton. .911 SV% in 29 games last year and yet they felt the beed to add Holtby despite that.

Bishop/Knudobin still have 2 years left each.

Would Oettinger really be available? Didn't Bishop miss the entire season? I don't really get bringing in Holtby, he looked like hot garbage with Vancouver.

I could see something like Koskinen + EDM 1st(Lottery protected) for Korpisalo + mid round pick.

Jackets have officially committed to Elvis now, so the writing is on the wall with Korpi. And getting another 1st rounder out of the trade is easily worth it for them. Koskinen can back up Elvis in a year where the Jackets don't have much in the way of expectations.

Georgiev+Gauthier for Koskinen+Broberg/Holloway

Shesty reunites with Koskinen, Georgiev has starter potential and can steal games despite being pretty inconsistent, and Gauthier has great raw tools but there’s no spot for him in the lineup with the addition of Reaves and our wing depth. Rangers get a solid prospect in return to make up the value difference and Koskinen being somewhat of a cap dump

I'll gladly eat my words on this if wrong, but I don't think Korpisalo would be any better than Koskinen. That seems like a lateral move the Oilers would have to overpay on because of Koskinen's contract.

Grubauer leaving Colorado really screwed things up for Edmonton. If he stayed with the Avs, Kuemper was reportedly going to be traded here, and the Oilers had another deal worked out with Buffalo to take Koskinen.

Depending on the goalie with Koskinen attached without retention it could be on the market. It's hard to say. We don't have 2nd's so we don't have another needed pick to even entertain that.

Maybe Joonas Korpisalo will be the target after Elvis signed that 5 year deal. The other option is probably Georgiev
Korpisalo is worse than Koskinen... lateral at best.

Koskinen and top 10 protected 1st (moves to unprotected following year) for an extended Korpisalo.

Not a chance in hell would I add a 1st to Koskinen for Korpisalo.

How exactly is Korpisalo an upgrade in talent over Koskinen?

Did the Oilers have a superior defensive core than the Blue Jackets over the past few years?

Were the Oilers a superior defensive team than the Blue Jackets over the past few years?

$1.7m cap savings for one year - that is the only difference.
