I assumed Jared got sent down because Dvorak has made a pretty good impression in camp.

I see Dvorak as the potential third line right wing. So competition for Dalpe and Gerbe, and maybe even Lindholm, moreso than potential fourth line right wings like Jared Staal and the more likely Westgarth.

And his edge is his playmaking ability (in on both goals against Buffalo) and little things like making himself available for that first outlet pass.

I kinda think that Lindholm may have a hard time being thrown out there as a full time 3rd line center in the NHL at 18yrs. old (not that there are many options at this point).

I think Bowman get's that spot on the 4th line before Welsh or Westgarth does. Westgarth will probably be on the roster as the 13th forward and hopefully is in the press box more often than not.

Gripes about size and toughness aside, considering we've been penciling Dwyer in on the second or third line since the beginning of last season, I think that 4th line is actually OK (especially if it's Bowman instead of Welsh/Westgarth).

If Lindholm ain't the 3rd line center then it will most likely be Nash and putting Welsh at 4C

I think Dvorak would be a solid addition, but they still may wait to see how some of the logjams with other teams play out over the next week. Granted, they could add Dvorak and still add another option should it become available potentially, but they may just wait and see. I don't think there are a ton of teams beating down Dvorak's door, so we have time.

If Lindholm can play center responsibly, then his age doesn't really mean anything. Being 18 didn't stop guys like Jordan Staal, Sean Couturier, Ryan O'Reilly and maybe a couple other guys I'm forgetting right now from centering a bottom 6 line when they were breaking into the league.

I hope we send him back to Sweden if we feel he's not ready to play, but I think he's still probably too good of an option at wing just to send him back just because he struggles at center in the beginning. Who knows though.

Eric Staal and Brandon Sutter?

Didn't Eric play mostly wing in his rookie season? I remember him playing with Francis, but I was in college at the time and couldn't watch most of the season.

Sutter almost died as an 18 year old. I wouldn't use him as a success story.

Sutter doesn't fit the description as he was drafted in 2007 when he was 18. He went back to Jr's for a year, then came to the Canes in 2008 as a 19yo only to be a 4th liner who wasn't ready and went back to Albany. It wasn't really until 2009/2010 season where he became a regular NHLer when he was 20.

Lindholm does have the advantage of playing in a league with grown men, but I still wish we didn't need him to be a viable 3C this year. If he show's he's ready, then fine, but being injured for most of the time since the prospect camp has made it tough for him to show much.

Dvorak is a quality vet. He still has the skill, and it's at an above average level compared to his teamates. Guys like jussi and Dvorak ca find homes with us because they raise our talent level which despite what jr says, isn't quite high enough. I think he's a good fit for the third line since none of the checkers are capable of beating Dvorak out. Gerbe and Dvorak together are raising the pace of play and the skill level on this team, while filling holes that were vacant. I wish Dvorak was younger, but to me from essentially the day they got added those two they made this squad. We love our reclamation vets, and these two bring things we need. Done deal.

Lindholm becomes the biggest question now to me. Bowman will stay this year, probably that fourth line of Nash, bowman and Dwyer. Muller never thought that would be the fourth but as others have said it's an improvement for sure. If Nash is third line center, we would need him to really develop offensively. He did look good last game.

That would be an interesting fourth line. Small and quick. Not a whole lot of puck skill unfortunately, but tons of speed and forechecking intensity. I'd like to see them skate a few shifts together just to see how it goes.

I don't hate that Bowman-Nash-Dwyer line. It's an offensive black hole but good wheels and defense.

Dvorak will prove out to be a good signing. Never underestimate a wise old fart who still has some game left.
