jeez guys, it's ok to use hyperbole and exaggerate about Waddell, Dundon, Skinner and other posters, but not Williams? I thought that's what August was for. My statement was very tongue in cheek.

I suspect that at some point in the season, Brindy WILL put Williams with Necas (and maybe Svech although he's a RW) as lines won't be static all season.

I believe you guys are conflating one year's worth of admittedly bad turnovers with a career's worth.

That, and also conflating one type of turnover with another.

Carrying the puck through the neutral zone, trying to hit a center in stride at the blue line, is quite different than collecting it for a shot from the high slot. In the trailing forward role behind two speedy linemates, Williams would have less time handling the puck and would be in much better position to help out when things go wrong.

williams tried to do too much last year. i think the expectation of coming in and being something akin to "the guy" as it pertains to tone setting and leadership was a heavy role on the team as composed last season. with that said, he did look significantly slower than previous years. it's not a knock against him. you can't evade father time forever, but holding the puck too long and trying to make things happen was never really williams' game. he's a fantastic compliment to ideally more offensively talented players at this stage of his career. if he's the best player on his line, it's probably not going to work.

Are you saying Williams turnovers were mainly skating through the neutral zone trying to hit a center? Because that’s not what I saw. There were countless times he had the puck high in the offensive zone and either held it too long or tried to make a cute play and turned it over, at a bad spot. It wasn’t carrying it through the neutral zone.

That said, I agree with bleed and vagrant that it was mainly due to trying to much, likely due to lack of talent on the Canes. I suspect we’ll see a different Williams this year and my comments were tongue in cheek.

Those are the ones that drove me craziest last year. Offensive zone turnovers didn’t stand out nearly as much to me as him trying to hit teammates in the defensive and neutral zones, and just sending the puck right to an opponent*.

This is absolutely what stood out to me. Sitting on the boards, tried to hit an outlet pass and puts it directly on the tape of an opponent still in his own zone with everyone else flying the zone. It happened about as often as those asinine passes Hainsey used to make behind the back in front of his own net leading me to wonder if they were middle fingers to a specific coaching strategy. OH THATS where I’m supposed to put the puck in this situation no matter what? Ok, there ya go. Happy now dickhead?

does that not seem like a lot of invitees or am I remembering wrong? I always thought the dev camp was more of the random invites than the tournament
There's a limit on the number of prospects you can bring that have pro experience (hence no McLovin, McKeown, Wesley, Ned, Booth), the NCAA guys almost always don't go because school's back in session by that point and they have to pay their own way if they do (Martin, Drury, Filipe, Stevens, Zimmer, Cotton, LaFontaine, Kooch), and the Europeans are already starting up for the season (Sellgren, Rasanen, Makiniemi)

I also believe, if I'm not mistaken, that you cannot play in the Traverse City tournament more than twice as a player.

Thoughts on Jake Bean? He someone to get excited about?

Most Canes' fans think so. His draft year he showed lots of offense for a defenseman. His next two years in juniors the talk was he was working on positioning and being more defensively responsible, so his number stagnated. He is an above-average skater. This will be his first season in the AHL--folks are interested to see if his offensive skills translate against tougher competition. There will also be a lot of interest to see if he can hold his own defending bigger/faster players.

The hope is that Bean can be a 3/4 who quarterbacks a power play.

Pronman is releasing two teams daily in his team prospect rankings. Before he started, he opened a Twitter thread for fans to express where they anticipated seeing their team end up. Flyers fans were all over it, demanding No. 1. A few were willing to settle for "definitely Top 3." Well ... it became the most commented-on story in the series to this point by 10:35 a.m. the morning it was posted ...

Canes are in the Top 10.

I said 4-7 for the Canes.

Buffalo’s almost certainly #1, given they have arguably 2 of the top 5 prospects in hockey.

Luckily, Pronman rates goalies lower since they're voodoo. Philly should probably be higher but Hart is rated as a middle-of-the-road prospect.

I think we'll be top-3 since Pronman values the things we have -- namely elite forward talent -- over the things we don't -- like goalies.

I'd put Svech-Necas up against Dahlin-Mittlestadt.

Lol yeah I knew as soon as it was posted how much outrage there'd be. Jesus Flyer fans are insufferable with their prospects
