I wonder if there's any thinking in the organization that they've got another Brett Pesce on their hands with Luke Martin. From every view I've had of him, he's been solid. Good skater, plays physically, smart, great outlet passes, right shot....have to wonder if there isn't some thought of making Pesce expendable in a couple of years.

From the little I've seen of him and what I've read, he seems to be kind of in that mold. I think Pesce has more offense to his game though. Not sure if Martin can develop that or not.

I really hope he’s 5’11” 170.
He's a 6th rounder....bust alert. :sarcasm:

Regarding Martin....I don't know anything about his shooting acumen, but his passing appears to be quite good. Now maybe it's just on break outs. If that's the case, then maybe he can log a few assists....but that's probably getting way ahead of ourselves. He has shown some pretty solid "shut down" capabilities.

Elite Prospects has him listed at 5'11", 170.
Canes Website has him listed as 5'11", 169

I only see the 5'8", 143 on hockeydb, which is very often wrong on height/weight.

5'11", 170 is on the small side, but who knows at his age. Ghostisbehere is only 5'11", 180. Sam Girard is listed at 5'10", 162. Krug is 5'9", 180lbs. Sprugeon is 5'9", 167lbs. Aho (the other one) is 5'10", 170lbs, Will Butcher is 5'10", 190. Tyson Barrie is 5'10, 190. Vatanen is 5'10", 185. Ryan Ellis is 5'10", 180. etc.. etc..

Being smaller as a defenseman poses some challenges for sure, but a player has to be able to play and use his abilities regardless of size.

Killinen showed some pretty good puck skills at rookie camp, and at 6'2" 181 he has the frame to be a pretty good size for a winger. Not a power forward, but a guy with enough finesse and reach to be a PITA to defend. It would have been nice to see him in live play at Traverse, but it looks like Liiga has already started play so maybe he needed to get there in time.

In any case, he seems like a good pick in the low rounds. A couple of years out for sure, but he's one to keep an eye on going into our next couple of training camps.

Fleury + 2nd + Roy for Duchene
Pesce for Nylander

Aho Duchene TT
Zykov Nylander Svech
Ferland Staal Williams
McGinn Martinook Foegele
Pdg

Slavin Hamilton
CDH Faulk
Bean TVR
Chekel?????

What to do with Necas? Also clears room for Fox/ Martin while keeping strong NHL D. That looks like a playoff lineup.
I wouldn't trade for Nylander along with Duchene. There is as much question as to if he can play center as there is for both Aho and Necas. He is also too expensive in my mind (both in acquisition costs and likely salary needed to sign him) and if he can't perform well enough at center, becomes another right winger...something we are busting at the gills with right now. I think if we want to trade for a center, Duchene should be the target. He likely is the most available and probably has the lowest cost in acquisition costs. Additionally, we know he can play the position to a level that there is no question about his long term future at the position. Can we resign him to a reasonable cost for us...that would be the only question I would have right now.

Williams only has one year on his contract. TT Svech and Nylander as your RW isn't a bad thing.

We already have more than a logjam on RD.
Ferland and Gauthier are also right wings. If Necas doesn't work at center (I think he would, but stranger things have happened) he'd be likely a right wing as well. And of my two objections, Nylander being a right wing is the lesser of the objections to him being both too expensive to acquire and more expensive to sign than we want.

And our RD excess could be much shorter lived. Faulk could be traded at any point and I don't think anyone would be surprised. Even if he is not, both he and TvR have contracts that are up in two years, and I could see both being moved rather than resigned.
