Welp the boys were all drunk.

Anyone got that fancy team graph for people's offense and defense contributions compared to average?

I wonder if some of the lads are upset about fighting tooth and nail for every dollar in negotiations then Orlov Yolo snagging 7.5mils like it ain't nothing.

Especially Pesce after what were probably rough negotiations over the summer.

None would be upset.

A guy taking 2 years 15+ million is a lot different than a guy chasing 7-8 years. The aav will be different but the guaranteed dollars will be much higher.

If Pesce wants to demonstrate the front office made a mistake by not locking him up long term, he is failing.

Orlov has played terrific the last couple of weeks and has been their best dman. He also has a great personality (versus perhaps bunting) that would contribute to the team.

N&O shouldn’t be allowed to write about the canes. But since Luke graced us with his presence, we would have to wait until February to afford a good goalie and even then they aren’t available.

We would only have to wait if there was no contract going the other way.

Pesce is approaching ufa and what is likely his last chance at a big payday with the way he is slowing down. He would be costing himself a lot of money if he were pouting like you speculate. Makes no sense.

Luke isn’t wrong though. I didn’t read the article so he may be off base as he often is, but goalie is a problem. Scoring is a problem too but being down 3-0 five minutes into a game is a problem and it compounds the scoring issue. There just doesn’t really seem to be anything to be done about it right now

As much as I love the thought of Nikishin, I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of disappointed Canes fans if/when he joins the team.
Of course it's wise to temper expectations on any prospect as you never truly know until you see them play against NHL competition, but he's a top 10 prospect across the league right now easily. His floor is probably solid 2nd pair guy and his ceiling with all his tools is legitimately best D in the entire league, Hedman caliber. If he was Canadian instead of Russian he'd be getting an insane amount of hype, but many in the NA hockey world are biased against Russians.

Too many games lately where we're getting peppered in goals on a low volume of shots. And while it feels like we have a ton of defensive breakdowns, I saw a stat earlier this week that we're giving up the 2nd fewest odd man rushes against per night in the league, so we're among the best in the league at limiting high danger chances.

Where we struggle is that statistically, those high danger chances are basically an automatic goal against for us where other teams get the save. That's a big problem

Seems unlikely we subtract from the roster at this point. Takes too long for people to get used to the system. Subtracting TDA isn’t going to give a lot of room
Just sending Kochetkov down to make roster space for a goalie would save $1.15M.

CapFriendly has current space at $2.58M, so that's $3.73M without doing anything.

If you think adding a goalie immediately is absolutely necessary, put Andersen on LTIR before sending Kochetkov down and that gives you another $3.4M. $3.4M + $3.73M = $7.13M which should provide enough space to get Gibson ($6.4M) or Markstrom ($6M).

It removes a big deadline move from a possibility, but the Canes have not been interested in paying deadling premiums anyway. It also assumes Andersen won't be coming back, and while rumors sound like that's the case we don't know how his treatment is progressing.

The problem is Gibson hasn’t been good for a long time. Add in their young goalie hasn’t panned out so a meh Gibson is going to cost a bad overpay to get. He isn’t worth it.

Markstrom had that bad finger injury. Calgary’s defense hasn’t done him any favors but he hasn’t looked that sharp the last 2 years either

If HD chances are our concern then neither really are an upgrade.

Kotchetkov has a high save percentage on HD chances than Gibson (.032 difference) and is within .002 of Markstrom.

There isn’t a simple solution here and going to get a big name will either a lot of cap or cost a lot of assets unnecessarily. Everyone will hang banners over a smaller trade but it is the better move.

To add Kooch and Andersen are 17th and 18th in HD save percentage over expected. Just shows how much the D is hanging them out. Raanta is just .004 below excepted.

KK from SJ or UPL are the cheap plays that we can see if we can get more out of their decent HD save percentage. KK is 15th in HD save percentage and UPL is 19th.
