Let's be honest, Hronek is likely going to slide down the depth chart in a few years.
Easy to forget he's only 23 and could still have years of improvement ahead.
While I don't think he'll be #1 (and never should have been) he could easily be a long-term #3-4, like a Nik Kronwall on the 2nd pairing.

He's had AHL level partners his entire career, so it's really hard to judge how good he is defensively.

That's kind of a lie, because he has splayed mostly with DeKeyser and Nemeth, who are not AHL-level guys any more than Hronek himself.

Last season DDK and Nemeth both played at borderline 3rd pair level. Maybe better than AHL, but not by much. You're talking about one guy that was a waiver claim and now 3rd pair D with the Rangers, and the other guy is about to retire after this season because nobody is going to sign him. DDK looked better towards the end of the season, but at that point Cholo was Hronek's primary partner.

DeKeyser was out for most of 19/20, Hronek looked good with Nemeth then Blash split them up. 31% with Nemeth and then the rest was hot garbage.

You talked about Hronek's ENTIRE CAREER. How he has had AHL level linemates. Why is it now only season 2019-20? He played a lot with healthy DeKeyser at 2018-19. Then most with Ericsson or Kronwall. Last season it was Nemeth and DeKeyser.

Are you really gonna judge a defenseman by his rookie year?

Nemeth sucked last season and DeKeyser was recovering from back injury. Barely better than AHLers, both of them, but certainly better than the true AHLers he partnered with the previous season.

If we expect Hronek to be a middle pair D or better, he should have a partner that is at that level also.

He was Yzermans first UFA signing, not a waiver claim.
He was claimed by the Avs when the Stars waived him, I did not say it was the Wings that claimed him off waivers.
