Calgary picked

14 Bourdon - picked at 10 (4 places higher)
22 Setoguchi - picked at 8 (14 places higher)
27 Smolenak - picked at 73 (46 places lower)
31 Jackson - picked at 37 (6 places lower)
82 Downie - picked at 29 (63 places higher)

All in all - I'm pretty happy - especially Setoguchi because you've gotta trust SanJose's scouting staff...

49)Michalik (picked at 30..16 higher)
55)Trukhno (picked at 120..65 lower...frankly...the NHL will figure out they missed on this kid)
57)McQuaid (picked at 55...2 higher)
70)Otcenas (picked at 123...53 lower)
72)Fritsche (picked at 47...25 higher)

Colorado picked

1 - Sidney Crosby - picked at 1 (same, duh)
6 - Bobby Ryan - picked at 2 (4 places higher)
23 - Ryan Parent - picked at 18 (5 places higher)
27 - Brian Lee - picked at 9 (18 places higher)
32 - Ondrej Pavelec - picked at 41 (9 places lower)
51 - Juraj Mikus - picked at 121 (70 places lower)
64 - Kirill Starkov - picked at 189 (125 places lower)
98 - Mason Raymond - picked at 51 (37 places higher)
106 - Joe Barnes - picked at 64 (42 places higher)
120 - Kris Russell - picked at 67 (53 places higher)
125 - Phil Oreskovic - picked at 82 (43 places higher)
131 - Mattias Ritola - picked at 103 (28 places higher)
132 - Vladimir Sobotka - picked at 106 (26 places higher)
196 - Igor Volkov - (2003 pick by NYI)
197 - Marek Kvapil - picked at 163 (34 places higher)
198 - Nathan Gerbe - picked at 142 (56 places higher)

3 players picked higher than in the NHL, 11 picked lower than in the NHL, 1 at the same and 1 from the 2003 draft.

Also Lascek who I picked last year was drafted by TB at 133rd
Marjamäki who re-entered was picked by NYI at 144th. Now he gets to play with Bergenheim. I like it.
Megalinsky picked by Ottawa at 186th, one of few teams drafting Russians. A good organisation for Megalinsky..

A very good draft for me..
DAY ONE: Two top line forwards, two good defensemen and a solid goalie prospect. Mikus and Starkov might have been slight reaches, but I like the potential that they have and went for two little risky picks.
DAY TWO: Skill, potential and a mix of euros and NA-players. Two midgets in Russell and Gerbe, but both are intresting prospects with good potential. Volkov is an overager at 22 years who is doing great in Russia and if he is signed he probably could make the league right away.

My picks

50 Alexander Edler(Was picked last year by Canucks 91st overall)
71 Daniel Ryder(Picked 74th overall by Flames)

Pretty happy with my first day of the HFNHL. A big surprise that I took a player from MODO with my first pick, eh?

After taking like six or seven players in the top 50 last year, I only drafted two players on Saturday, and one of them was taken last year anyways.

Carey Price- 13th overall in our draft- 5th overall in the NHL draft.
David Krejci- 73rd overall in our draft- like 61st overall or something in the 2004 NHL draft

Flyers' Report Card

Up and down is the story, although the late pick of Vycheslav Buravchilov is confusing considering he was highly rated by Red Line and other scouts in various articles that I read. He led all defenseman in goals and assists at the World under 18 tourney...Time will tell. I gave up a lot for this pick but when you like a player as much as I did you go for it.

One interesting factoid for me will be my 1st round pick. The debate in mind at that point was whether to take Latendresse or Zagrapan. Although Zagrapan went much higher in the NHL, Latendresse is a steal for the Habs in the NHL unless most scouts were wrong about this kid. Hopefully Zagrapan turns out to be as good as advertised or this could come back to bite me in the ass.

1st #16 Marek Zagrapan - 1st rd, 3 picks higher to Buffalo
2nd #33 Vyacheslav Buravchilov - 6th rd, 158 picks lower to Buffalo
3rd #69 Michael Sauer - 2nd rd, 29 picks higher to NYR
3rd #87 Juho Mielonen - 6th rd, 88 picks lower to Det

My only pick on the first day saw the good ol' CSB ring up LW James Neal (Plymouth, OHL) at #47; he went 33rd overall in the NHL to Dallas, a team with a good history of developing players of Neal's ilk.

Considering the Columbus system's lack of depth at LW, and lack of prospects with Neal's credentials, I can't say I'm displeased with the pick.

Not expecting much else out of a draft where I only have a 5th and a 6th remaining...

Well, every year someone takes a player in the first round who was included in every mock draft in the top 20, only to see that player drop into the 2nd round. Patrick O'Sullivan being one of the past examples.

This year it was my turn with Latendresse.

#18 - Guillaumme Latendresse (taken #45 - 27 spots lower)
#28 - Brendan Mikkleson (taken #31 - 3 spots lower)
#34 - Andrew Cogliano (taken #25 - 9 spots higher)
#88 - Nate Hagemo (taken #58 - 30 spots higher)

Taking Latendresse seems to be the biggest question mark. Interesting to see Ryan go higher given he has the same skating questions.

My trading down to #34 from #33 with a few bidders stepping up and then getting Cogliano looks pretty good considering I got a 4th and two 5ths out of it, but it is way too early to really know.

I actually did a little prediction before hand and guessed I would be able to land Latendresse, Mikkleson and Vojta, so not too far off.

Usually I'm way off.
