How would you rank these top young defenders?

At the moment:

1. Werenski
2. McAvoy
3. Provorov
4. Chabot
5. Dahlin
6. Heiskanen
7. Makar
8. Sergachev

Didn't list the last two. Don't know enough about them. First three are top pairing guys on their teams. Chabot is a real surprise, let's see if he can keep it up. Dahlin/Heiskanen are more of a top 4 options at the moment - rookies you know. This list will change soon. Makar also has all the potential in the world but before he steps on the NHL ice I can't rank him higher even if I wanted to.
And Sergachev - as one of the posters mentioned above - he has been playing on great teams throughout his career and been really sheltered in Tampa.

I'm surprised to see Sergachev ranked so low, his ceiling is really high and he has a 40 point season under his belt.

I tried to put together a list of the #1D type D that are within the last few drafts. I am sure I missed some good players, so feel free to add them to yours lists.

Please rank by how you foresee them developing in the next few years. Who will be tops by 2021?

Also, free free to add tiers if you want to. Here is the list of players:

  • Provorov
  • Werenski
  • Sergachev
  • McAvoy
  • Girard
  • Makar
  • Chabot
  • Dahlin
  • Jokiharju
  • Heiskanen

----------------------------

My rankings:

  1. Dahlin
  2. Heiskanen
  3. Chabot
  4. Provorov
  5. Werenski
  6. McAvoy
  7. Makar
  8. Jokiharju
  9. Girard
  10. Sergachev

Great list. I'd put Sergachev above Werenski though.

Chabot, Sergachev and Dahlin will be the best three of the bunch, in no particular order.

How can anyone rank Makar at the moment? Further, how can anyone rank Girard below Makar? It seems remarkably uninformed and frankly not intelligent.

On their way to #1D but totally insufficient track record:

Not #1D:

Jokiharju.
Chabot.
Sergachev.
Girard.
Makar.

lol what... Chabot, who was the first Dman to win MVP at the World Juniors ever, and has 22 points in 16 games to start his sophomore season, and is very strong defensively as well won't be a #1 D? Funny how he's already playing like a successful #1 D in his 2nd pro year.

I see you are new here. On this forum we sometimes discuss prospects and how they will be in the future. I know its crazy, but if you observe for awhile, then maybe you can try it too.
We having seen enough of some of these player to make an accurate projection. Most here are ranking Dahlen number 1. But I havent seen anything from him indicating that he will be.

You only see Prov, Werenski and McAvoy as #1D in 3 years?

Chabot sure has snuck up on everyone. I know it's early, but if he keeps up his present production, then he has to shoot right to the top of some of these lists.

I am old school, and like my Dmen to be judged on their defensive play as well as their offense. I think,Chabot has the chance to be as good or better defensively than many on these lists
