They would get pummeled by Finland but probably would beat sweden and russia

Finland roster is the most impressive, especially knowing that Finland population is almost 3 times smaller than Ontario's.

Sweden is great as well, given the fact they have 5 millions less people as well

Giroux is from Hearst, ON. And even though he is born in Quebec, I'm not really comfortable with Stastny being up there.

Well , one was born in Québec, one was born on the ontario/quebec line and speak fluently French while having french parents.

Brassard can replace Stastny

Ontario would do very well. If it’s everybody else vs Ontario, I'd take the former. But I think it would be competitive.

I think his question is, like, you know, HOW good though.

Team Canada has enough depth that you could take Team Ontario out, and they would still compete for a gold medal. And so would Team Ontario. On any given day, they could beat each other. But at that level, on any given day, Team USA could beat Team Canada, or Team Ontario, and vice versa.

I suspect Team Ontario would be pretty close to equal with Team Canada (without Ontario players). Ranked 1 or 2.

Wait, he was born in Hearst, wasn't he? Not Quebec. He would be (and should be) on Team Ontario.

the only part of his life that he lived in Quebec was the 3 years he was in the Q. That's all.

The world as in you can just pick players like Crosby, Ovechkin, Barkov, Malkin, Kane, etc.?

I'll take the world, especially in net.

Isn’t Hoffman the only guy on the 4th line that doesn’t play C? Other than that yeah I like it. (And I see now that Rielly needs to be replaced, still should be a good team)

They'd hold their own against team world but in a 7 game series I don't see them winning, especially with that goaltending.

Who would replace Rielly? Muzzin, Ellis, Ekblad, Fowler, Hamilton?

I’m a Western Canadian through and through, but yeah, Ontario is the best hockey Province in the best hockey nation on earth.

Team Ontario, right now, could compete for gold in a best-on-best event.

There’s some good players coming up from the west which is nice to see, including likely the top 3 Canadian forwards picked in this draft will be from Western Canada. Matt Savoie might be one of the best forward prospects we’ve seen in years.

so you have Hoffman the only natural winger playing center and the two natural centers playing wing?

Yuck.

Does rest of world count other non-Ontario Canadians? Cause I'm sure we could build a team to compete toe-to-toe with the good old Ontario boys

YWG -> YXY -> YEG
I was going to try and extol the virtues of a Team Alberta (how does a top line of Taylor Hall, Brayden Point and William Nylander sound?), but I realized they'd get killed in goal. About the best name I could come up with there is Aaron Dell.

That's obviously not lined up properly. Down the middle would probably be selected more like McDavid, Tavares, Scheifele for the top 6, and Kadri, ROR for the bottom 6. And Giroux can play top 6 OR bottom 6 centre, or be shifted to wing.

Stamkos-McDavid-Giroux
Seguin-Tavares-Marner
Monahan-Schiefele-Kadri
Domi-O'Rielly-Hoffman/Couture

Skill all the way up and down the lineup, and quite frankly, that bottom 6 can score as good as any, while playing strong defensive hockey (other than Hoffman), and make you regret stepping on the ice with them as well.

It comes down to population.

More NHL players come from the Toronto region that most provinces, or even countries. But that's going to happen when you have 12 million Canadians (golden horseshoe) within 100 kms.
