Check both players defensive stats. About even, yet Fox sacrifices some defensive play for offensive play which Pelech doesn’t do. If Fox primarily focused on defense like Pelech he would be better defensively. But offensively Fox is able to produce at elite rates while also being as good as Pelech defensively who prioritizes defense first. Fox’s defensive numbers this year were as good as anyone’s while also playing against the hardest competition of any defenseman

I’ll put Pelech up against any defensemen in the NHL when it comes to playing purely defense. He’s the best player on the islanders. Isles fans have been saying this for 2-3 years. It’s nice that others around the league are starting to recognize and give him his props. He’s just a monster defender.
