I think my favorite MacT story, aside from Toby Petersen and running into Nurse's grandfather in the mens room, is going to Finland to scout Laine and Puljujarvi and ending up at the wrong game. May or may not be true.

Signing the CORE to $6million each which not one of them is still worth it today!

Not true on two counts. He didn't sign any of them, and only one of them was worth it, but he's long gone.

Well when the guy picked right behind him is putting up 41 point seasons and playing 25 minutes a night in a position where the organization had absolutely nothing in the pipeline. On top of that we've seen one of our 1st overall picks moved out to see that lack of depth addressed. I think its a very good reason to be pissed off about the pick. I understand a lot of you liked the pick at the time, but it was brutal from day 1 and I said it at the time. Our pick at that spot should have been one of Ristolainen, Horvat, Pulock. Nurse was a stupid pick given what we had for LHD at the time. Is anyone convinced he'll be better then Klefbom who we had in the system? Sure he MAY be better then Marincin, Musil, Simpson, and Davidson but even thats questionable now with the emergence of Davidson last year.

Just one more misread in an extremely long list of misreads.

As long as Nurse ends up being an important 2nd paring D that can intimidate I'll be happy.

But, yeah, it hurts that Risto is exactly what this team has needed for years, and as usual, Oilers management guessed wrong. I swear to God, they would have had a high guess percentage if they'd flip coins on every decision they made. They were wrong.... Oh, it's gotta be 90% of the time.

I mean really, can we really expect anything that MacT tried to work out? Here's betting Slepshev is back in the K next year.

I can't believe people care this much.

MacT and Lowe are still employed in the organization. Either someone sees value in what they do, or they have made enough connections that they won't be fired regardless of their contributions. Regardless, that's how life goes and none of us can control it or even know which statement is accurate.

Time to move on.

Agreed, it's about their legacy. Who cares. They aren't in charge and can still have value if used correctly.

The only move I really didn't like from MacT was hiring Eakins. Admittedly there was a lot of hype around him as a coach that season and at the time I liked the signing. Krueger showed promise here and we should have stuck with that to see what would happen. I don't like to speak too much about his player transactions since he didn't make any major moves, and instead chose to make a lot of low level traded and signings since he probably had not contacts around the league due to being a rookie GM. I will say though that in my experiences with MacT as a person, he's a very friendly and wise man. He is a nerdyish type who knows a lot about the game and the players. He had a few strange comments like the Schultz Norris one (keep in mind all 30 teams were after him yet MacT nabbed him). It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that Chiarelli would want MacT around. He has valuable insight into the org and I do believe he was thrown into probably the worst situation one could be thrown into in the NHL.

Haven't read the rest of the thread yet, hope you put your flame suit on.
This is pretty much how I see MacT as well. He'll alway be remembered for Eakins and a couple dumb comments but overall he doesn't deserve the hate he gets around here. He never made the BOLD move that he should have (and look at what Chia's got for making one), but what he did do was generally applauded at the time. Nikitin turned into a stinker but even that was understandable... we needed D. I think he has the hockey smarts to know what was needed but didn't have the experience and connections to get it done. It's also unfortunate that the only times we won the competitions was with Eakins and Schultz.
Another thing I find amusing is how he got Roasted when he said 15/16 was going to be a development year. .. then we won Mcdavid and Chia came in and guess what.. even with McD it was a development year.

All in all I think he gets more hate than he deserves but if he came in labeled as Interim GM, it'd be a different story.

(I'll never forgive him for Eakins though)

-promising bold moves but doing the complete opposite
-hiring Dallas Eakins was a critical mistake
-building the defense around "Norris" Schultz while allowing Petry to basically walk
-going into the season with Draisaitl as a #2 centre..despite no experience and NO help around him to mentor him

any responsible business would have skidded these clowns just to get rid of the stench of this lost decade.

As long as Lowe and Mact have prominent managerial roles in the organization, the dark cloud of nepotism will linger.

Meh. With Chiarelli and Nickelson at the helm almost everyone doesn't care anymore. I don't see any dark cloud either. I get what you're saying, but I've accepted the fact that they aren't going anywhere. With their roles non existent let them hang around a little longer. They will be gone eventually I'm sure. Also, seems like everything is slowly trending in the right direction again. if Chiarelli wants MacT by his side so be it. Lowe on the other hand is buried somewhere probably bored out of his skull. I know he gets to go to a few things here and there, but honestly there isn't much for him to do.

Lowe is on the business side of things. I would imagine his job is basically to be sent to clients as a walking museum exhibit of the dynasty, and I'm sure his main duty is to socialize and hang out

All true. But the discussion will never completely die and the organization deserves nothing less. They r keeping the OBC conspiracy alive, no one else.

Just because a guy can't be a GM doesn't mean he doesn't hold other valuable traits. Whether or not this is true from some current members of the organization I don't know.

The other thing that could be happening is PC could be trying not to burn bridges and just let contracts run out.

True, but it's all about optics. And people love optics. When you've had a couple people destroy the organization with dim witted moves, and then, a decade later, you still see them involved at some level of hockey ops, those optics are not very enticing, are they?

Pretty amazing how bad he was. Did he do anything good?

He's still around cause Oilers.

I really don't worry about it though, everything that has been going on is in the opposite direction of Mact, he doesn't make any decisions.

He obviously still does some stuff, but who even knows maybe he's decent at it. Whether he's there or not in his current capacity I'm really not sure makes a huge difference.

Hard to believe he wasn't involved in that Reinhardt trade...

He was a pretty good coach and did some good things with what he had to work with. He'd still be the GM right now if he kept Kruger as the coach. His decision to hire Eakins set the franchise back years. I never knew a coach could damage that many players.

Meh, anyone who really looks at it that way is just simply indulging a level of obsession that generally only sports fans reach. PLENTY of competent companies keep incompetent employees for various reasons, and simply move or bury them in places where they can't do any major damage, or if they're lucky, to new roles that they are actually competent at.

The organization will be judged on results - if they suddenly won 5 cups in a row (not going to happen, but it serves the purpose of example), anyone who continued to make a big deal about MacT and Lowe would be ignored. If they continue to scrape the bottom of the standings, they'll be judged accordingly.

I don't really care that MacT still has a job. He doesn't do anything any way. It is Katz money to spend, so whatever.

He was horrible. All I can say is after 10 years of debacle after debacle, there looks like there might finally be some light at the end of the tunnel. Chia is a proven competent GM, we lucked out and got McDavid. I think the nightmare might finally be over.

I Hope..........

Can some one please explain how this guy has a job ? Letting Petry go for nothing Signing Gagner to a 4.8 million per year contract and now this player gets 0 offers as a ufa. Nikitin nightmare Ference Nightmare spending the summer chasing Clarkson at outrageous term and salary. Demanding a extra year for Fayne on his contract. Drafting players on bathroom meetings. Calling Schultz a future Norris trophy winner. On and on and on. Complete joke he is still employed with this team.

The mantra of PC and Tmac is building a cup Winner from the net out running a hSCA system.
- Top goalie
- Strong HSCA top 4
- 3 strong even production centers.

1. Get the best HSCA save% goalie you can get.
#2 Talbot. (MacT)
who was acquired from the NYR.

Sather stated he and Mact had agreed apon a trade before the 2015 trade deadline. Based on the hemsky 3rd and Assets he had negotiated in a Petry trade.
Mact completed the Petry trade.

Sather said he would have traded Talbot for 2 2nd's from another team.
But he offered the agreed upon trade with MacT to PC since Mact completed the acquiring of assets and MACT WAS STILL WITH THE ORGANIZATION.
rangers fan's were pissed when they heard this.

You may think MacT is crap!
but
he was allways highly involved in draft scouting during his GM period.

Chased
Pocession forwards like Pouliot
Got DZone and Pk specialists in Hendricks and PC

Chased HSCA Dmen in
Ference
and
Fayne.
who are suited for a HSCA defensive system like NJD; BOS; SJS; ANA; LAK; CHI; NSH.
ference had great HSCA numbers until Jan of his first oilers season.when he wrecked his shoulder
and
Def was done.

Fayne came in his first year
and
still had top 80 HSCA d;
top 60 HSCA w/ Klef under Nelson
top 50 shot suppression (SA/60 ) D
his goalies s.... the bed that year.

Fayne came in out of shape last year.

2. Chase a great HSCA D top 4
Larsson (PC)
#1 1st comp HSCA D

Klefbom (Tambo)
1st comp
top 60 HSC AD
Top 15 PKD

Davidson (tambo)
2nd comp
Top30 HSCA D
top 30 SA/60 D
#5 PKGA D

Fayne (MacT) former #1 HSCA D
Had his
top 80 HSCA D
Top 50 SAD reults from year 1 jump
playing 1st comp w/ sekera.

Sekera (PC)
Versu 1st comp
bottom 20 HSCA D
had it improve to bottom 50 w/ Fayne
SA/60 Drop in equal proportion
to Fayne 's rise in SA/60

Versus 2nd comp
Top 10 HSCA D
top 50 Sa/60 D
must never play 1st comp.

Nurse (MacT)
showed elite HSCA defence in junior and WJC.
took to chasing offence
abandoning the hsca area.

Tmac is a developer of HSCA D talent.

Davidson- Larsson
Klefbom - fayne
Sekera - Nurse

3. Elite Even production Centers.

Mcdavid (MacT won the lottery)
#1 C 2.69 EVp/60

Draisatl (Mact)
#8 C 2.20 EVP/60

RNH (tambo)
top 10 even production PvP Center when healthy
#14 fwd 5.41 PPP/60

PKD:
Davidson #5 PKGA D (Tambo)
Larsson #12 PKGA D (PC)
Klefbom #15 PKGA D (Tambo)
Fayne Top 30 PKGA D in NJ. (Mact)

PK Forwards:
#20 Hendricks 4.35 (Mact)
#46 Mcdavid 5.21 (Mact)
#69 pakarinen 5.71 (Mact)
#82 Letestu 6.26 (PC)

PP forwards:
# 4 Mcdavid 6.47 (Mact)
#17 RNH 5.41 (Tambo)

PP D:
#32 Sekera 4.19 (PC)
#52 Klefbom 3.20 (Tambo)
Davidson #1 PPG/60 D (Tambo)

I will look at how our units are filled
by Who
how they perform
and
Who got them!

Really glad to hear the story about Talbot/Sather/MacT, I hadn't heard that before. Also makes me feel a little better that the Petry pick went to getting us Talbot.

One day you will learn game is played on ice not paper . All the stats you keep showing how great Oilers dman goalies forwards have been has not had the team finish aboce 25th place. Your stats are useless like an accountant posting numbers when a company is already bankrupt and dissolved. So not interested in your National paper league and your Paper Cup k thx.:shakehead
