Every time that I am critical of a rider going wide or checking their mount, I need to remember that jockeys have more guts than any other athlete. I am incapable of taking 1/100th the physical risks that these brave souls do. It pains me greatly when they get seriously hurt. The ugly part of our wonderful game.
I echo your hopes for progress for Halliday.
Agreed. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism of a rider so long as it is kept within the boundaries of civility. Money is on the line and handicappers can vent. Wishing injury or worse is emotion gone wrong and self-discipline should be in play. A simple look at the ambulance following the race as each develops, at any track in North America, is a reminder.
