So they didn't re-sign Toffoli (who wanted to be here) because of this contract, right? For the most part, at least.

Then he's a buyout candidate after 1 season.

That's rough.

hardly a season. He was brought as a backup in a shortened season ended up with 21 games and he was quite terrible so bad some thinks any backup would have played just as good or “bad” for 1/5th the price with that free up room to keep one of Tanev/toffoli.
This is why I gave credit to benning for his recent trade but will not acknowledge him as a good gm. He’s made many more bad moves than good moves.

Wow, those 8 teams very interested in Holtby must of all backed out at the same time. :sarcasm:

Happy to have Holtby off of the books, but to lose Toffoli, and Tanev for Holtby, and Virtanen "Who no longer play for the team". Well thats just bad asset management.

Holtby wasn't a bad gamble going into the expansion draft year, the goal was basically to lose him to Seattle, but it showcases how dependent this team is on well-above average goaltending to win games.

The optics. Noted shill IMac before the draft: "They have better deals than giving him to Seattle." Then it comes out that suitors want him retained. LOL. Can someone explain to me why this is a better option over retaining salary in a trade for 1 year anyway?

Because teams wanted them to retain more than 500k and Benning wanted every last penny to spend on this season.

They subtracted Tanev.

They had no f***ing clue how important Tanev was to the defensive structure of the team.

Tanev was our defensive QB.

Our entire dzone revolved around Tanev and Tanev was always the one to make the break-out pass because he never it f***ed up.

And as good as Tanev was, we still needed Marky to consistently make highlight saves because opponents were always able to overload us on one side or another because of how weak our forwards were.

Would Holtby have had a better season if Chris was in the line up.

The answer is yes.

FO shot themselves in the f***ing foot as per usual.

That's ok. We don't have Schmidt either now nor maybe Edler and/or Hamonic. Just quadriple shift OEL.

Paying a first round pick and taking on an anchor contract to ship out contracts that Benning signed, then to buyout contracts Benning only just signed last year, should not be cause for celebration but an exclamation point that Benning truly does not know how to manage a salary cap.

or evaluate talent
