Opening game of preseason for both Sharks and Canucks.

Blog entry will be updated through the day with news stories from both sides.

But it is left to the reader to use the Twitter lists to keep up to date on all the other notices. :sarcasm:

CSNCA has a 30 minute preview show before the game.

SJSharks.com will be streaming Rusanowsky and Hedican's radio coverage (with, I believe a full 30 minute pregame show). Sounds like it'll also be available on the Sharks app.

Edit:

Audio stream for Rusanowsky and Maley.

Probably won't know until about 7pm when warmups start who may be in play. (More reason to tune into radio feed)

Wonder what the highlighted players are? Seems like the highlights are guys that are either vets or locks/highly likely for the roster and that then asks, Meier?

Aren't there rules about the number of veterans that have to play in the pre-season games?

Here's the rule:

The official verbiage in the CBA:

15.4 Exhibition Games.

(c) A Club shall be permitted to dress a minimum of eight (8) veterans for any Exhibition Game. For purposes of this Section 15.4(c), a veteran shall constitute either:

(1) a forward or defenseman who played in thirty (30) NHL Games during the previous season,

(2) a goaltender who either dressed in fifty (50) or more NHL Games or played in thirty (30) or more NHL Games in the previous season,

(3) a first round draft choice from the most recent year's Entry Draft, or

(4) any Player who has played one-hundred (100) or more career NHL Games.

According to those rules, Mueller should be highlighted as well.

Meier wouldn't be highlighted if it was for that though, right?

Mueller's locker being gone and nine players highlighted make it very interesting that Meier is highlighted. Of course it doesn't say anything for sure, but I doubt it's a mistake.

Technically he is one that would make the list since he was drafted this year.

Only 1st round pick of "last" draft (i.e., 2015 draft, Meier, 9th overall) is included in this.

Does not include Goldobin, Mueller -- 1st round picks from 2014 and 2013.

Mueller should, yes, but Meier too by those rules. It's possible that they just forgot to highlight Mueller.

Gaunce - Cracknell - Grenier
Kurtz - Jones - Jensen

Edler - Tanev
Bartkowski - Sbisa
Hutton - Biega

Markstrom

Canucks lineup according to their GDT. They have a better lineup than we do I think but mainly only because they have what's like their top defensive pairing out there.

Nice to get a TV broadcast this early.

Wonder what the penalty would be if a team was found to have not played said required 8 veterans in an exhibition game according to the rule? ... loss of a draft pick, fine the coach, make them play 9 vets the next game, take away a goalie stick for a period, no after game food for the coaching staff, make players wear shorts instead of pants .... anybody know?

Let the guessing begin.

Torres would be suspended for six months.

Fine - definitely. Perhaps suspension of coach.

The only exemption might be if there was a split squad (and half the team had been traded away).

It's done to provide the fans with some of their favorites, not showcasing prospects only.
