A 2nd for him this year? Not worth it.

A 2nd for him next year, especially if he's declined even further and doesn't wanna re sign after that, I'd definitely take a 2nd for him next year.

He'd still be worth a 2nd next year, barring a Zubrus like plunge.

This year's draft is supposed to be deep.

We can get a 2nd for Patty, Lou has to make that deal if available.

The Islanders held on to their stars to long in the 80s for sentimental reasons and look how long it took them to rebuild.

Stars

Not moving Elias is not going to set this franchise back any farther than it already has been. And missing out on a second round pick is very likely not going to be something we look back on and say "that could have turned this organization around". And after Patty there is literally no other star we have to worry about.

You can make that argument for Parise, Clarkson, Neidermayer, etc., but not for a guy on the edge of retirement who may fetch you a pick that has a tiny probability of becoming an impact player in the NHL someday.

I've never once wanted Patty benched and it would of been foolish to do it.

And how is trading for cory a squeeze? Marty was 40 and we had no one to replace him and marty was still the starter.

Let's get it straight here. There is no talk about trading Elias for a true young top 6 forward. It's dumping Elias for 2nd or 3rd picks that won't replace him.

It's just not the same. Apples and oranges.

We brought in a good young goalie, who was going to want to play, who was looking to get a big contract. We did this one year after Marty helmed yet another run at the cup. This was Marty Brodeur, who was 30 wins or so from 700, and we brought in his replacement knowing full well this was stepping all over his toes.

There are differences in the situation, but imo the biggest difference is Marty was a much bigger player. That guy is an absolute legend. And we squeezed him right out the door.

Again, not advocating a dump here, but I find it hard to say we need to treat our legendary franchise players with the utmost care when we just recently shoved ole Marty out the door.

The draft is such a crapshoot. A 7th rounder could be as good if not better than a first rounder.

Statistically incorrect. You could step in **** in the 7th round, but the odds are less than 1%. That's like saying a powerball ticket is as good as a Harvard business degree. Yeah, maybe you hit the powerball and wind up more successful than you would have with a Harvard degree, but the chances of it happening are about zero.

you know what kind of player you might draft in the 4th rnd and say, hey he turned out to be a pretty good pick? Jordan Too Too. 98th overall in 2001.

You know how many other guys from that round turned into regular NHL players? Two. Ray Emery and Christian Ehrhoff.

It's my conjecture, but what makes you so sure?

First, if Conte was forced to leave, Lou would leave as well. Secondly, there's no way you have a scouting staff evaluate players for an entire year and go through the process of setting up a draft board and then fire them right before the draft. How would the new scouting staff even begin to get their **** together, nevermind make selections?

Unless we're getting a damn fine young forward or a 1st+ back I'm not even going to entertain the notion of trading Elias.

But of course, no one will trade that for a declining 38 year old with therm left.
