If you put Carbonneau in, you probably have to put guys like Rod Brind'Amour or Chris Osgood in.

A bunch of guys that have been passed over for years like Roenick and Turgeon probably just got really excited by this induction.

Unbelievable.

Alfredsson is one of the great two-way wingers of our time, having to ply much of his career during the dead puck era.

What a sucker punch.

Meanwhile, Guy's career bests over 19 seasons are 26 goals and 57 points IN THE EIGHTIES.

Unbelievable.

I don't care how good you are at shutting guys down, those are not HoF stats.
Though I do believe that Him over Alfredsson is outrageous, Bob Gainey is in the Hall of Fame, so it isnt too outrageous to get in entirely
---------------------------------------------------
The one thing that the recent Hall of Fame loves more than Stat Padding Forwards, are Players with an Award case and/or Fantastic International Career. These guys are very likely to get in after they run out of locks.

Vaclav has a great International Career,
Carbonneau has a great Award Case,
and Zubov has a great International Career AND Award Case.

From an non-Habs Fan's Perspective, Carbonneau is a skeptical pick for sure. I would say he is probably in the Top 10 for worst Hall Inductees, but both Nedomansky and Zubov are good picks in a Dry Year.

Interesting class.

Good to see Nedomansky recognized, like already mentioned, should help open the doors for other European legends.

Nedomansky and wickenheiser were the only ones i cared about.

Ned becomes the first player from the golden age CSSR teams to make it. Hope more will follow but i doubt it
Martinec and Holecek should already be in. Just because Canada didn't have some famous super series against them doesn't mean they aren't equally as deserving as someone like Yakushev.

Zubov I'm kind of torn on. He was a good player for a long time. Never the best or even one of the two or three best defensemen in the league. I can see a good argument against his being inducted.

Is it? I've never heard his name being mentioned much on the "long overdue" list of HHOF candidates.

You probably perused the wrong lists, because he's one player that I've frequently seen mentioned.

Haley Wickenheiser: 100% slam dunk, great selection
Sergei Zubov: Deserving inductee
Guy Carbonneau: Barely a 0.5 point player, 3 Selke's are not enough in my opinion
Vaclav Nedomansky: Appeared to be dominant in the Czechoslovakian League, averaged a point per game in the WHA in his mid-thirties and playing well in the NHL until 40 is impressive. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Someone who knows more about international hockey in the 60's and 70's would give a better summary.

Overall a poorer than usual induction class.

I am pretty surprised by most of the inductees.

Wickenheiser: good selection, surprise to no one.

Nedomansky: Good pick, as European players from the 70s and 80s represent the biggest omissions in the HHOF. There are better picks available though, and like the Yakushev pick it does demonstrate a North American-centric viewpoint, but it's good overall.

Zubov: I'd rather him not in, but it isn't terrible. Low end inductee.

Carbonneau: Quite a bad pick. Carbonneau was a very good player and he has some novelty as one of the greatest defensive forwards ever, but I would prefer that the HHOF be restricted to a higher calibre of player.

Overall I'm thinking that this is the most eclectic group that's ever been inducted. Pretty odd. I like the Nedomansky pick among the picks that were not 100% obvious.

i don't think so. carbonneau getting in has nothing to do with passed over 1,000 point guys getting in. it shows that the door is still open for sub-1,000 point guys who were elite complementary or role players on fistfuls of cup winners like tikkanen and claude lemieux. i totally applaud this.

I don't mind Carbonneau, he was the heir apparent to Bob Gainey in Montreal.

If you are the best defensive forward in the league multiple years plus Selke's to back it up, why not.
I don't mind this, I thought he would've gone in long time ago.

If people complain about Carbs, then we should throw out Gainey from the Hall too...his stats are on par with Carbs

...also, on a dynasty stacked team Bob Gainey won the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP in 1979.
He sure does belong.

Why the actual **** would we want Tikkanen or Lemieux in the HOF?

Hey let’s toss Justin Williams in there too. And Matt Cooke played a niche role on a Cup winner. Chris Nilan?

I have no problem with a guy getting in if he was the best defensive forward in the league while he played. He was before my time, but it seems a lot of people make the argument about Carbonneau.

Give me an argument for Zubov over Doug wilson

Zubov: 25.5 minutes per game for teams 17% better than average, 3-4-8-8-9-9-9 in Norris voting, 37 more playoff points in 69 more playoff games (in an era with lower scoring and harder to qualify for the playoffs)
wilson: 25.1 minutes per game for teams 1% better than average, 1-3-4-4-8 in Norris voting.

I was not upset either were out, and I am not upset Zubov is in. If I had to only select one, it would be Zubov.
