I just think there should be some accountability when people start spouting off here, particularly when they keep going after events prove otherwise.

If you want to be the thread police, apply to be a mod.

People are allowed to have disagreements without having their basic character called into question, or implications that they need to leave the community as punishment for having an opinion that doesn't match lockstep with yours.

What does this have to do with being a mod? I'm in no way suggesting that any rules were broken. And certainly nobody except the mods have the actual power to enforce such a thing. Not sure where you're getting the whole dramatic "punishment" thing but what I suggested is entirely voluntary.

It's more about making things highly personal for absolutely no reason.

You're all over the map. You don't have to do it, just say you don't want to!

But maybe don't couch it as some kind of concern for my participation in this community, because that rings pretty hollow.

Anyways, we're pretty off topic here, which wasn't my intention, so best to let it go.

Hey I'll open that same deal up for you if you are so certain you have an understanding of this.

Ernie,
I was here in 2011, when the Coyotes' saga was just becoming more public. At that time, there were very knowledgeable posters here in many facets of life - legal, municipal, development, financial. I remember a lot of very good discussion about a number of angles to the Arizona situation.

The posters who knew the most simply stated their opinions, with examples from their areas of expertise. They didn't need to argue, because they knew their stuff. They didn't need bets. Being 'right' wasn't important. Trying to understand what was happening WAS important to them.

That's what I liked about this this forum in those days. Sadly, we have lost some of that.

Personally, I can see both sides of this situation. There are some cash poor owners whose other industries are suffering. Even Jacobs, since Delaware North is not doing nearly as much business right now. So, on the surface it sure looks like someone could go bankrupt.

On the other hand, I can't imagine Bettman and the BOG wanting that to happen, for the sake of future franchise values. And, it would certainly ruin the NHL's standing in the public eye, thereby making a future media rights deal much less lucrative, so I would expect that the NHL itself would do everything in its power to prevent that.

I doubt there will be a bankruptcy. But, in my circles, there are a lot of people who don't want the vaccine, and it that is they way it is nation-wide, then this economic problem is going to last until next summer, and who knows what might happen.

No, I'm being completely clear.

Comments like these:

Oh boy people really like to throw around numbers and act like they are a big deal without context.

What is surprising sometimes is how people who claim to be financially literate are willing to parrot what the owners say uncritically. I suppose the admiration of wealth borders on religion for some folks.

If no franchise declares bankruptcy in the next year, you take a 6 month hiatus from this forum. How does that sound?

I just think there should be some accountability when people start spouting off here

...are toxic to this forum. I don't know why you think people who disagree with you are somehow unethical or disposable, but the reasons aren't important. Bottom line is that a hostile attitude isn't needed.

@MNNumbers said it really well in the post above -- there are a lot of folks here who really do know what they're talking about from various angles of business. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with them over a speculative topic, but have a little respect for the room.

Thanks, you actually summed up a lot of what I've said here, though I hope you're wrong about the vaccine uptake.

Jeremy Jacobs is a great example. No doubt all his businesses are under a great deal of pressure. But will the Boston Bruins declare bankruptcy? Unless Jacobs has saddled it with a ton of debt we don't know about, it would be utter madness to put a franchise that is worth $1bn into insolvency! If he doesn't have the cash flow from other business to make up for losses (which given the TV contract will be a lot smaller than other franchises) it is much smarter to take a very low interest loan to make up the difference.

Go down the line and every franchise is in the same situation; a bankruptcy at this time would cost the owners a great deal more money than if they hang on.

I think your view of the many thousands of comments on the Phoenix saga is a tad rose tinted from my recollection, maybe it was like that for a very short period but not for long!

All I ask for in my exchanges with people is for them to put a critical eye on whatever information they are dealing with and use some business sense, as this is the Business of Hockey forum after all.
