I understand you wanted to cut down on polls, but I don’t think many of the Vasi votes were going to go to Price for the #2 goaltender. We saw it many times in the prospects polls.

Vasi and Price both beat Gibson, though. We can spin this either way and have it be logical.

yeah but you dont know who the vasi voters would be voting for in poll 2

I voted Price so i'm happy to see him go in at #2 but - I also think it's fine and fair as is. I get your idea of wanting to do a separate poll - but he's already doing so many polls, and there was a net difference (10 votes) between Gibson and Price in the first poll - and he's also using the same tiebreaking procedures in all other polls for consistency. So I really think it's fine.

On topic - tempted to go Bob for #3.

I don't understand Gibson at #1.

He has never won a vezina. Not a finalist. His best showing is 7th place 4 years ago.

I'm not saying he's not talented and couldn't take over as #1 overall - but he needs to actually accomplish something to do so.

It would be like saying McDavid was the best player in the world in his rookie year. No - Crosby, Kane, others...year 2 when he won the hart/lindsay? Sure, maybe (even then - i think it's more by year 3 where you call him that conclusively).

I think saying Gibson is #1 today is just overreach. Players still in majority pick Price at #1. Vasi is up there just won a vezina. Bob could have an argument. I think Gibson is behind all 3 of them.
I also take contracts into account, but OP doesn't prefer that in these polls, so based on GSAA, HDGSAA, and SV%, Bobrovsky & Gibson should be the #1 and #2, respectively. Only on HFboards, would Price contend for top 2.

IMO, trophies and GAA are not the way to equalizing goalies league-wide. I'd rank goalies on all strengths as well as 5v5, with GSAA, HDGSAA, and SV% as evaluators.

For example, a goalie that has a .925 SV% and has faced a lot more shots than average is actually playing better than a goalie that has a .930 SV% and has faced less shots. The first goalie has faced more scoring opportunities, and has saved more goals from going in based on their quality of play.

According to the GSAA statistic, Carey Price hasn't been an elite goalie for a while now. On the most recent sample size he doesn't even crack top 10; 13th place sandwiched between Hellebuyck & Rask.

Carey Price has appeared in the top-10 since 2009 and became the defacto #1 in the league from 2013 until 16-2017, ranking #1 for GSAA.

You're stuck in the past, my friend. Sergei Bobrovsky ranks #1 from 2016-17 until present, followed by John Gibson. 3 years back should be as much as we go in evaluating. When we start going to far into the past, we start creating an agenda.

As someone who values consistency in goaltending very highly, I just can't vote for Bob. Probably not in the next poll either.

Going with Rask. He's been a consistently strong goalie his whole career. He gets big help from the team he plays for but he's solid.

I see the top 5 as
Vasilevsky
Gibson
Price
Bobrovsky
Bishop

Andersen or Rask could go in there too but Bishop was a beast this year. Considering the team he played behind compared to the other goalies, Gibson deserves alot of credit.
