As an Avs fan let me tell you that was some gong show by the refs tonight. Not only did they kill the entire moment of the game for both teams, but it was make-up calls galore from original calls they got wrong. Then, they missed blatant calls on either team just to call the other team instead three seconds later. For example, Rantanen had his stick held for a good five seconds, no call where the play eventually turned into a kneeing penalty for Cole on Nelson. If the refs actually made the right freakin' call the first time, Cole would've never been in that position to knee Nelson - nor Brock trying to sidestep the hit from Cole.
Avs had their chances though and it seems that Trotz's PK were the better of the two special teams tonight. Add in shaky goaltending by Varlamov and it's an Islanders win. Avs were the better team 5v5 throughout the game though, but the game rarely was played 5v5.
