Not for Barcelona fans

Except if you're an Inter fan. Or a decent human being.

My vote goes to Iniesta.
He's regarded by many as one of the greats. How could he be a cult hero?

For the Canadians in the crowd, there is one main answer that came forward this year. SAM ADEKUGBE!

Huge slap in the face to Kamal Miller. Feel shame.

Cult heroes tend to be kind of specific to either a team's fan base or people in a particular country in a certain era. Given the different team loyalties, nationalities, backgrounds, years of watching the game and ages of people on this board, I doubt there's many universally accepted 'cult' players on here.

I feel like Brighton has a lot of options. Tomer Hemed, Glen Murray, Cucurrella (his hair made him an instant hero). From a gone bye era, Peter Ward for Brighton

I misunderstood the question, I thought it was players who were universally liked.

Ehhhhh what? Icardi is what every man should live his life by. Dedication, talent, perseverance, and elegance. The James Bond of football.
Not sure if serious. Are we talking about the homewrecking/writes books that attacks his own fans Icardi?

Then and there
Some of these players are too good to be cult heroes. Cult heroes are guys like Origi and Kyrgiakos.

Yeah, I see cult heroes usually not being amongst the best overall players for their clubs, but who nevertheless left a lasting memory to fans of that particular club. Origi fits that perfectly for Liverpool.

For AC Milan, Gennaro Gattuso. Certainly not a shrinking violet and absolutely didn't go unnoticed in any of his matches.

For Chelsea, Dennis Wise, another player in the same ilk as Gattuso, with more of a scoring touch. Like Gattuso, he also ended captaining his club.

Another one for Chelsea, with more class and skills, Gianfranco Zola. Lifted Chelsea to another level in international recognition, and was loved by fans.

it used to be easier to become a cult hero based on a few international matches and being great in an international tournament. And not coming from a major footballing nation, but rather from a middle ranked one.

Players like Roger Milla or Carlos Valderrama, memorable players, who didn't play for any major clubs and thus didn't annoy anyone. Practically no one comes out saying that he deeply hates Milla or Valderrama.

Same applies to some of the colourful goalkeepers of the past, like Rene Higuita or Jorge Campos.

Random question and I didn't want to make a new thread for it.

Assuming that the player has to turn X age at some point prior to the CL final on June 10 2023 at the very latest, what's the oldest age you can put together a squad for that you think has a realistic chance of winning the CL? 34?

Conversely, if a player cannot turn X age prior to the CL final, what would that age be where you think the cut off would be? 23?

Realistic chance meaning you could maybe see it but definitely wouldn't have evaluated them as a top team, like Madrid this past season. But maybe not like a 1/100 simulation like Chelsea in 2012.
