We always seem to need another dman, especially as we're losing Masters after this season due to league BS. Hopefully Sacco's back at least.

Expansion and realignment is afoot. The league is now called lower C and has two new teams. That'll simplify the playoffs.

They seem to think it's a 17-game season, but they're only showing 15 weeks on the schedule, including playoffs. Also, no 7:45 games this season... jerks. At least now they'll be split 50/50 between Wednesdays and Saturdays.

As best I can tell, it's the same basic league setup as before, just with new names (Upper C, Int. C, and Lower C instead of C1, Upper C2, and Lower C2) and a bunch of teams getting shuffled around.

It looks like one of the teams that joined (Vertigo) is coming from upper C2; they've been struggling for a while. I'm not sure who the Grizzlies are... there was another upper C2 team called Fastlane that also wasn't doing well. They've disappeared from the schedules, so it might be them, or it might be someone new.

Jesus that was a ****ing joke. If that team is going to be allowed to play in this division this season I'm done. Hopefully league management steps in and kicks them out or at least up to b.

Mind you there's no D league here, which is what I and most of the team would be in if there were. But just a group that has absolutely no business being in lower C whatsoever given the skill level of the division. Apparently this is a team that had re-formed in our division with a lot of new players since their old team had been having issues the next division up. I had a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad feeling as soon as I saw that many older HS/college aged kids heading into the building and signing up for the other team, and I was absolutely right in my assessment.

We hung with them in the first, should have either been 1-0 or 2-1, but whatever, inconsistent goal calls there but for the most part the refs were fine through the game and did a good job of getting the other team to just **** later on when the game was out of hand.

But holy ****, the 2nd and 3rd. The level of puck possession and cycling from that team was just unreal, it was like we were ****ing Norway trying to defend against the Soviets, or the Railhawks trying to play Germany or something. There's absolutely no way a team like that has any business whatsoever playing in our division. I mean it was a case of being so obviously outclassed that it's not even funny, the kid ringers on that team should be playing ACHA Div2 or something, not the lowest of the low tiers in a beer league in Raleigh. It got so bad in the 3rd that I, a guy that basically has no kind of temper, was taking runs at the kids on their team whenever they had the puck on my side in our defensive zone to prove a point.

Final was 12-2, and if not for our goalie playing as well as he did they easily could have had half a dozen more.

I think the score was even more of a blowout than that. The scorekeeper was taking it easy.

That was the most ludicrously one-sided game I've ever been a part of in any sport. It would have been 30-0 if our goalie hadn't been pretty good at diving to get back-door shots.

I'll be doing pickup hockey or another league until that league gets sorted out. There's no developmental purpose to playing games like that.

Oh probably was, but the ****ers that were still scoring on high slappers late in the game already had their 3 goals. They were doing it just to do it.

I'm going to ask our captain and the guy that runs the division what's going to be done about that team when I get to our next game, because if the answer's "nothing for now" I'll be joining you. I haven't paid for this season yet, and if the league's not going to do the right thing I won't be doing so either.

How competitive is this league? I have my own pair of skates, and a stick, and gear, and basically I did 5 weeks of training in high school but other sports got in the way and I quit. I struggle to skate backwards, connect passes, obtain passes, and lift the puck. I would basically be a pylon out there that could "maybe" keep puck possession. Is there a league for me?

There's a couple options. Lower C SHOULD be the kind of league you're looking for, and I've been told the Lower C at Ice Plex is closer to a real beginners level.

That said, there's also a weekly D League pickup up in Wake Forest that absolutely is more about that. You'll have the occasional Intermediate and Lower C players playing there and playing well, but not necessarily taking over games.

It depends on whether the Canes will allow it under the terms of your contract, Mr. Gleason.

I am very tempted to come try my career as an after work hockey player. Just out of curiosity , is this a no contact league are is there some physical play from time to time? I have no problem with physical play but also don't want to risk injury while not getting paid to do so.

I like this signing. Are you physical?

Looks like the non-competitive matchup situation might actually be resolved soon.

What, the league's actually going to do something proactive? That's a shocker.

It's a non-checking league but that doesn't mean a bit of physicality from trying to position in front of the net or puck battles against the boards is out of play.
