Dirk Bauer was your normal grit grinder who really had to battle for everything in his career. The German international carved out a great junior career in Switzerland before being swooped up by Metallurg in the KHL. He was never the best scorer but he is a guy who does everything well and was extremely competent defensively. Bauer is a natural leader who laid it out for his teammates on the ice. He made one final with the Chicago Blackhawks but did not have much playoff success after that. His best years came in St. Louis and he quietly blossomed into a star power-forward. He has also been so instrumental in the development of the German mens national team program. He never won any medals with them both at the Junior or Senior level but he kept them competitive. I believe he will be a lock for the NHL Hall of Fame.

What a career this Zurich product has had. For Bodmer growing up in Switzerland, I don't know if he could have imagined his career going like this. He has essentially become one of the best two-way forwards to ever lace up. Winning an unprecedented 6 Selke Trophies over his long career. He prided himself over being a guy who can play very well away from the puck and with the puck. It's crazy to think that he went 3rd overall in his respective draft. One of the most amazing things about Bodmer is his loyalty to the Colorado Avalanche. He stuck out with that organization through thick and thin for 18 years. He had a couple 100 point seasons but other than that, his numbers weren't crazy. He was just a good talent. He's a winner at every level and was loved by most of his teammates. He will for sure enter the hockey hall of fame, especially since his career points total is well above a point per game,
