Think he was bursting his homerbubble.
Tbh i dont think a swede should go 1st especially to a canadian team since they would get bashed beyond belief unless they gave instant greatness.

I doubt that very much!!
That would be absolutely the last thing that would happen with Landeskog.
As a matter of he (IMHO) would become an instant fan favorite.

I know this is said all the time, but I'm amazed at Landeskog's English. He speaks it better than a lot of American/Canadians.

Great interview though

The kid who battled the red machine? won numerous golds? A different time. He had oldschool down to earth mentality, and more importantly, it was pre internet.

You don't know who Gabriel Landeskog is, do you? The kid plays a Canadian game, has a Canadian mentality, a Canadian work ethic, even sounds Canadian. Of course, that's if you believe that birth place determines the kind of player you'll be. Point is, he's probably the most "oldschool down to earth" player in the entire draft.

Most likely.

Fans are going to be very happy with this guy, wherever he lands. He's going to be a standout person...that much is already obvious.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks he isn't down to earth needs to listen to this interview in its entirety. He gets compared to players like Mike Richards and immediately plays it down and says he has a long ways to go before he'll ever be on that level. He's very well spoken, humble, a quality leader and has a great work ethic. Whoever drafts him will be getting a kid with great character.

Seems like many universally admirable qualities are inherently Canadian. :sarcasm:

That's because as far as Canadians are concerned, no other players can play the game the way we play. Alfredsson, Forsberg, Sundin? Bah. They're all Canadian, we just let Sweden borrow them. Ditto for Franzen and Holmstrom. And Landeskog.

No offense but i dont think you can sever oldfashion swedish mentality from politic robot mentality. When asked when he would come over sundin said something like "in about two years, yea. If asked that landeskog would probbs spout out "very happy" "you know" "it's an honor" for 5 minutes straight. And it has nothing to do with language skills as ive heard both in swedish.

Watch Landeskog play a single shift and come back and tell me about his mentality.

Ottawa
Brief Summary:

-Last few months have been a bit of a roller coaster.
-Went to WJC injured, attempted to play through it, tried to tape it up, ended up tweaking it again, realized he had to think long-term, and had to think about the Rangers season.
-Can play LW/C/RW but prefers LW. (Enjoys taking Key FaceOffs but rather play wing)
-Doesn't feel Mike Richards comparison is quite accurate at this point.
-Models his game after Jerome Iginla.
-Thinks Larsson is his own player (not a Hedman or a Lidstrom), and will be a great player.
-Would love to play in a Canadian market.
-Felt playing in Canada would be the right thing for his developement.
-Doesn't look that much into mid-term rankings, ("you want to be ranked first in June not only in February").
-Great Honour to be first Euro captain for Kitchener.
-Proud of Jeff Skinner (former roomate).
-Favourite NHL team: Ottawa Senators- Played in Bell Capital Cup, First NHL Game he saw live was in Ottawa, father bought him a jersey at the game.

I really don't think Ottawa can pass on him. And if they do, RNH is a Spezza fan so he's next...but then Larsson! Bah, too many good players, Sens need to grab a second top 3 pick :(

Well, we Canadians weren't going to be the ones to bring it up, but...

You forgot he also liked the Red wings and that he only had heard good things about the Oilers organisation.
