That shift is great. Draws two penalties and scores a goal. That's great production for 5 minutes. What does Keenan say to him after that to actually make it seem like a punishment?

"No stay out there."

"No stay out there."

Five minutes later he's winning a face-off clean against Adam Oates and ripping a clapper top shelf.

At the end of it all, Keenan had to have Mess and Leetch pull him side and explain, "No what coach is trying to tell you is come off when you're supposed to come off."

Classic Kovalev.

to be fair he drew 2 penalities and scored... the coach should have been clearer

How many Kovalev references can we fit in one thread? I vote for 950+

Of course he's ************. You don't really believe Ovechkin blatantly refuses to listen to his coach do you?

This "Ovechkin is a coaching cancer" thing is one of the biggest (and weirdest) myths this forum has. Every single coach he's had has explicitly said that Ovechkin is one of the most coachable players in the game. He does what the coach asks from him.

Weiss had a 5:43 shift a few years back, and despite a couple icings he had plenty of opportunities to get off the ice through that span..

My grandpa used to tell me stories about some Russian guy that once had a 5-minute shift for the New York Rangers. Probably just an urban legend.

Suter under Yoe avoided shift changes/set his own minutes on the PP. You'd look at the bench and his replacement would be standing waiting to go as Suter skates by with the puck. Puck cleared and the same thing happens again.

Wayne Gretzky said that Kovalev once had a five minute shift and it was the greatest shift of all time.
