I know this is only a depth move, but I like to think that this is Poile freeing up space to make a big move, one can only dream. But I am going to miss Gil very likable player.

Gill's situation was just bad luck. When we signed him and Gaustad before the lockout we appeared to be a team on the verge of a two to three year window for a Cup run, and that kind of signing makes sense in that circumstance.

Then the lockout, then the injuries, the Erat trade, and our window is now a couple of years down the road and skillsy is unfortunately dead weight.

Hope someone picks him up.

But as far as a buyout, unless there is another window for compliance buyouts after free agent season, I would think if there are no takers on waivers it would be best to buy him out, pay him 667K per year for two years and have an extra 2 million in cap room if we do find some expensive UFAs to sign

It will no doubt be regular waivers. Not a rosey picture seems there were no takers for a trade now the hope that someone picks him up and theres cap relief.

Yeah...just can't see anyone interested in a $2mil healthy scratch. Do we have the coin to buy him out is the question.

As I write that, Cooper implies that, one way or the other, Gill is gone.

That's now three years in a row the winner of the Nashville PHWA Media Recognition Award will not return the following season

Winners were Shane O'Brien in 2011, Jerred Smithson in 2012 and now Hal GIll in 2013

Still can't believe we couldn't trade him at the last deadline. It seemed so obvious that I have to believe there were no takers. :dunno:

Glad he is gone. We need the roster spot to sort out our D. This is going to be one mighty young defense but I like it.

Predators GM David Poile expects Seth Jones to start next season in Nashville.
This isn’t a surprise to anyone considering Jones was one of the most NHL-ready prospects in Sunday’s draft. Although he dropped to No. 4, Jones could end up playing top-four minutes for the Predators next season as he adjusts to the NHL. Poile said he'll clear room for Jones by waiving veteran defenseman Hal Gill.

Hey Hal thanks for getting all the stuff off the top shelf.

I just hope it's a way to clear cap space. If SK and Gill go that's 5 million

Was it at the start of the 05/06 season when we iced a defense where the other five had total fewer NHL games played than Kimmo Timonen?

maybe. was that the year when we went to Vancouver with Hamhuis the oldest guy in uniform> Suter/Weber/Klein/Zanon and maybe Sulzer/ Sulzer doesn't seem right. I just remember they all went down at once and we had our young D on showcase for a game or two. I more remember Hamhuis ice the puck from his own end all the way down the ice and into the netting for a delay of game penalty. Don't know why I remember it

I remember that, but I'm pretty sure it was Zanon, not Hamhuis. On the PK if I remember correctly. He was trying to send the puck down ice and just slapped it as hard as he could, and it hit the mesh above the glass behind the opposing team's net. I remember wondering why he never got that much force behind his shots.

I liked Gill but he was injured and would be at best the 7th d man on the team. Someone had to go with Jones coming in and Gill was the best choice. He's a specialist that some team could need but not for 2 million which is why we probably couldn't trade him.
