Habs should have a few untouchables. Caufield, Suzuki, Petry, Romanov are on that list. Would be dubious to deal Toffoli or Anderson after having good seasons. And several more thay can’t be traded. Price, Weber and other NMCs.

Avs have a longer list and Toews is on it.

if the Habs really want to make a move. Get a LHD that can skate and pass. Trade the disappointing KK as your best bet. Hope to Get someone to bite on his potential over the underwhelming substance of his game.

He’s got an 11 team NMC. So we can’t trade him to a Canadian team or the likes of Buffalo or Columbus.

also very easy to just buy him out if he won’t waive or a trade doesn’t make sense.

Avs are owned by Walmart money. They can afford it.
Toews won’t be exposed and EJ won’t be protected. He’ll waive or he’ll be off the roster.

So He'll be bought out, that -2M$ on a team that needs to resign Landeskog (9M$+) and their #1G (5M$+). And Makar (Provorov Bridge if they are lucky)

Good luck keeping everyone

First world problems. Avs will just have to deal.

Or maybe he just waives his NMC because he realizes that Seattle is never going to take a 33 year old guy that can't stay healthy to save his life recently and earns 6m / year and then gets to stay with the team he has been for over a decade now, gets to earn 6m/ year for 2 more years and gets to have a chance at winning a Stanley Cup?

How about that?

Yeah Avs will be in captrouble like most other good teams in a flat capworld...

But atleast so far EJ is their only somewhat bad contract and its managable. Its not like we have ugly contracts like Carey Price or to a lesser extent Weber on the payroll so don't worry to much about the Avs. They will be fine...

That remaines to be sean.

He has a NMC, so trade with retention won't happen, and I do not see him waiving his spot in a cup contending team

So Sakic will need to buy him out and carry his 2M$ cap hit for a couple more seasons
Already been reported that Avs management is under the impression that EJ is willing to waive. Given his contract and injury history it’s pretty unlikely he would end up being Seattle’s expansion pick.

You mean Weber, rhe guy NSH will HAVE to trade for after next year not to get it by 14M$ recapture?

Weber is retiring after next year, Peice will be on LTIR, and Habs will draft Bedard

Keep libing in your unicorn dream where players will just waive their NMC for nothing.

Toews is an anchor of the Avs top defensive line and PK. Caufield is the Habs top prospect. No need to move one for the other. Let’s move on

He's a ppg winger with leadership abilities, Guess he'll sifn elsewhere, he's not taking less than Rantanen.

Look at Weber's contracr, he's owed 6M total after next ywar for the next 4 years, no way he plays them.

And Price has been injures more than half a year, he'll jist fail a physical and be parked there

There isn't anything on the Habs that is even remotely close to bringing back Makar.

understood,
there also wasn't anything in OP's post "that is even remotely close to bringing back" Caufield plus a 1st
folks overreacting to the Makar call-out are ignoring context of the thread
it was about the absurdity of OP's proposal
Toews having a fine year, but the proposal was off the rails
