Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Leafs

I miss the days of having Markov. Even if he lost a step towards the end, he could at least run a PP and facilitate offense. It is still so mind-boggling that Bergevin wouldn't give me an extra year. At worst, he would have been a PP specialist. Instead we had Alzner, Mete and Schlemko playing key minutes.

Caufield is the weak link on that line right now. If Montreal could get another top line two-way player to go along with Suzuki & Slafkovsky that line is a two-way force.

Caufield would drop back to play with Dach.
What if Dach became that top line player with slaf and Suzuki?

CC down to 2nd line with Newhook and strong top 6 winger aquired via trade?

Wow, does MSL every like Matheson.

Many posters complaining about Matheson during the game. MSL says Matheson was everywhere on the ice, and he was the best player on the ice in the game. Says he must have been a star. A reporter noted he wasn't one of the 3 starts. MSL said well, I thought he was the best player on the ice. Says there's a process, you're never too old to keep evolving and his (MSL's) style of play meshes well with his game. Says Matheson is still getting better.

Yes but is Matheson a "net positive" for this team?

I can't believe I missed most of the 1st period last night having to argue in Matheson's favor.

The takes on here at times are so unbelievably silly.

Marty must be a fool, that's the only possible answer, peewee wannabe.:sarcasm:

I had the misfortune of tuning in to AC after the game.

Only to find Norman Flynn outdoing himself again with his footwear choices. This time, he went a step further and sported no show socks. He never fails to disappoint.

More frustrating than Matheson on the PP last night was Suzuki and Caufield playing hot potato for like 30 seconds on the end of game PP for no reason.

Who said he could only be that? Why listening to that person and base my opinion on what that dude said?

Sorry but all i did is agreeing with the fact that you dont go for a 2nd pair D with a 5th overall, never said he would be that, in fact i liked the kid training camp alot.

I don't like Newhook at center. A Dach - Suzuki - Slafkovsky line would be epic, but not until we get a center that can take over for Dach.

I mean if we draft Celebrini then by all means move Dach to wing. We could go Caufield - Celebrini - Dach. Then maybe Roy - Suzuki - Slafkovsky, with Newhook on 3rd line, or the reverse.

It's just a dream for now.

But Preds reportedly were convinced enough to offer up Askarov + 1st to select Redenbacher, and Philly reportedly offered up Gauthier to be able to select Redenbacher at 5OA suspecting Az would select him at 6OA
We will never really know if it was just rumours or reality, but I would had prefered Askarov (a future all star goalie) or Gauthier (a future star power forward) to Reinbacher. Only Habs management, Nash and Philly know. BUT if these two teams were willing to give that much in a trade to get Reinbacher and Arizona was ready to jump on him if available at #6, it must mean something about the quality and potential of this player.

Toronto is forced to do band aid fixes in hopes that the big 4 contracts can get it done. In all of my years of following hockey I have never seen such a poorly built team.

And they refuse to adapt no matter who is the GM. They gave an insane contract to Nylander and they will do it again in two years to Marner. They refuse to break the Top 3 and send one of these guys to another team for material that would change their team. Look at the Jets with PLD, it was on a smaller scale and it succeeded. I cannot imagine what the Leafs would get in return of Marner.

The message that i got from all the core contracts...Its their (the "core") team. And the way the leafs manages them follows. I dont want the habs to be built that way.

I made that point but going into the season, there were concerns about Reiner’s offensive potential and this season only created more doubts.

You don’t pick a limited offensive blue liner with your 5th overall that Hughes himself tabbed as a 2nd pairing D. I’m more looking forward to what the other D prospects have in store at this time.
do you happen to know of a defensemen by the name of brock faber by any chance?

Faber is an odd one, at the rate he's going he could come close to getting as many points in his 1st pro season as he had in his entire NCAA career. Since he was teammates with Pitlick last season I got to see him a few times and he did have a good year but no way would I have thought he would be half this good in the NHL this quickly as it's rare to see someone jump from the NCAA directly to the NHL and produce so well from the blueline. I certainly wouldn't expect that from any of the non Markar, Fox types.

him being this good this quickly is definitely a big surprise, but the folks over at eliteprospects were always huge fans of his and had him as a top 20 prospect in the entire NHL entering this season I believe. He's gonna be a top 10 defensemen in the league for years to come.

He was drafted 4th (2nd round) in 2020.

The original premise was what type of profile should be reasonably expected for a top 5 overall pick.

Gimme Faber as a mid-second rounder before he broke out with Minny and it looks like a reasonable selection at that point in the draft.

I'd like to see him get in better areas. Not be as puck dominant. Playing with Dach last year allowed him to be the 3F all the time. I suspect as Slaf becomes more confident, his goals will go up. He needs two puck dominant linemates to really thrive. He's a great complimentary player not a play driver so when he's forced to act as a play driver, his assists will go up like this year but his best attribute will be underutilized
Yeah I did bring up the 3F thing earlier this season.
Suzuki has commandeered that role on the first line.
Cole is definitely better off hanging in the weeds but they both can't do it.

I will be moving to Toronto soon. How can I watch all Habs games? Google search didn’t help much. I am using NHL Center Ice in the US but not sure it is the best solution in Toronto. I didn’t know where to post this question.
