The NHL's most storied franchise center situation is so historically bad that it has turned GM "already not so sharp" Bergevin MAD!!

With a projected cap of $80M, Habs currently have $19.1M of cap space.

At the draft , Habs trade Pacioretty ($4.5M) for a high pick and prospect and Andrew Shaw with with 25% retention ($2.9M) for a low pick.

On July 1st, Habs have $26.5M of Cap and go crazy:

1st Sign 27 yrs old Tavares 7 years at $13M!
2nd Sign 32 year old Stastny 4 years at $6M
3rd Sign Calvin De Haan 6 years at $4.5M

Internally Habs sign Danault $3M and De La Rose $0.8M and put $1.1M Jordie Benn on waiver

Why would Tavares comes to the Habs "tire fire shit hole". Money baby, money, money moneyyyy.
Why would Stastny comes to the Habs "tire fire shit hole". Tavares makes the Habs a contender.
Why would Calvin De Haan comes to the Habs "tire fire shit hole". Tavares makes the Habs a contender and the chance to play on the 1st pair with Weber.

Drouin Tavares Gallager
Domi Stastny Lehkonen
Hudon Danault Scherbak
Deslaurier De La Rose Byron
Froese

CDH Weber
Mete Petry
Alzner Juulsen
Reilly

Price
Niemi

Welcome to Cap hell!!

Montreal aren't signing Taveres , Stastny , De Haan They aren't trading Pacioretty for a high draft pick no team will offer that which means Pacioretty will remain a Montreal Canadien Shaw won't be traded either . You don't have to worry about player salary because Montreal will not be spending to the cap.

This is going to go very badly for you!

On what planet is Calvin deHaan a 1st pairing D? Especially if you plan on contending!

There are no 1st pairing left D available on the UFA market and CDH can take the weber pairing until Mete is ready

You're a lot of fun!

Most probable scenario, Habs have Drouin as the #1C, Domi as the #2C and Plekanec has Weber's new left D partner....

Money, money, money? 13mil in MTL worse than like 11mil in Florida. Tavares signing with essentially any US team is better for him than signing in Montreal. Plus, having Tavares absolutely does not make Montreal a cup contender. Especially if they're trading their best winger.

Stastny will sign with a true contender, probably WPG. Lol at your take on Calvin.

Your post is probably embarrassing other Montreal fans.

Calvin de Haan is one of the best Defensive D... He also leads in Blocked shots but he also got bad injuries.
I would say a second paring D but a really great asset to have on any team

Thanks for your great input.. problem with your post is that Tavares is UFA THIS summer! No Florida teams have a need for a top 6 center and more importantly the cap space THIS SUMMER. Actually, very few teams have the cap space for $13M! Also, you need to consider that with the visibility playing in Montreal, Tavares would be making a lot more in endorsements than playing in the US where hockey is less popular than bowling... San Jose for exemple is a great place for Tavares to go as they have the Cap and need for a top C but California taxes are not that far from Montreal taxes plus when you consider the cost of living in the bay area vs Montreal and the endorsement money, Tavares will probably have more cash in his accounts at the end of his deal going to Mtl.

Wasn't running him down, but he is nowhere close to a #1 on any team, besides maybe the current Wings (Not hard).

As much as you see cap room as our asset, tons of teams have as much of not more than we do. So if Montreal could do this, Vegas, Rangers, Colorado, Islanders, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Jersey, Buffalo, Dallas, St Louis, Columbus, San Jose and Calgary are all in the position to do the same if not better offers than Montreal.

This is going to be the offseason of record overpayments.

Well, people should be embarrassed by being embarrassed by someone elses post on HF.

On another note, when you're an elite and passionate NHL player, playing in front of 2000 fans who've been bribed with free beer and hotdogs is probably not super enticing.

The best chance MTL would have at signing Tavares would be to create a situation where he is a finishing piece in creating a contender. Basically an excellent team if the 1C is it's only major weakness. Current roster would be a tough sell.

Top 5 C and Goalie, legit #1D and #3D making 2 good D pairing, 3 top 6 wingers and decent 3rd line. Habs should rank easy in the top 15 with that roster ... and ahead of the laffs
