In response to the Diaz thread.

I would like us to go after a number 3-4 (preferably big) guy like Hamrlik was for us back in the days, but other than that, our D would look like:

#3-4 guy that we'll use as #2 - Subban
Markov - Emelin
Diaz - Gorges

Bouillon
Etc...

With Tinordi and Beaulieu starting in the AHL.

If Tinordi can put on about 10 pounds he should be in the NHL.

Subban, Gorges, Emelin are locks. Everything else is up in the air.

Markov is more of a lock than Gorges. Let's not pretend Gorges wasn't one of our worst Dmen all season.

A big, ideally physical second pairing type who can clear the crease and stand up for his size would really make this defense that much better. The only problem is, who?

The other question is how Emelin comes back. If he can continue to evolve into a legitimate top 4 defender we won't have to rush the prospects. Otherwise, Tinordi and Pateryn should get a chance to make the team.

Diaz and Gorges were horribad in the playoffs, but as a sheltered minute-eating 3rd pairing they could be easier to stomach. Diaz is useful but I'm not sure he has a long term place on this team.

It has to be via trade, there's no UFA D that really fits that description. As for Emelin, he proved to be a really good #3-4D.

And Diaz... You always need two good puck-moving D and Markov only has a couple of years left. While Beaulieu is getting ready, we need to keep Diaz to help the PP because Subban won't be enough. And he's far from the worst D in his own zone

Don't really see how Gorges can be a lock. Acthally, if we continue to play the same defensive system, I can't see Gorges having much value on this team. He's not big, he's not great defensively, he doesn't dominate anyone physically, he doesn't skate well (straight line or laterally), he's not great in the transition game and has very little offensive skill. He's a good team player, but does not bring enough for this team to be a regular top 4 next year. And in my bottom two, I would prefer having a physical brute playing with Diaz (yes Diaz is my number 6).

Well the only thing with Diaz is he might be appealing in a trade for a team that has physical stay at home defenders but not puck movers. Ideally though we need him for the second PP unit.

Before Diaz and Emelin were injured, we had one of the best defense in the league.

Looking at Scap, we have 24 players signed with 61.5M (once Kaberle is bought).
Not much space to go for other players.

We might get two more players at 1M each.
We can certainly get a physical d-men and a physical forward for this price but you are looking at fourth liner and 7th d-men...

If you believe MB, we will build this team with draft picks.

Not sure where this will lead us.
We are set in the goals (despite all comments about Price), in defense and on the offense.
What you see is what we will have next season.

Can Eller, Galchenyuk and Gallagher can all get 60 points seasons while Subban gets 70 points and both Markov and Diaz gets 60 points?

We have Subban, Emelin and Tinordi.
Even if Subban is not that tall but he can handle himself in the crease at 216 lbs.

Gorges sucks; overpaid and overrated

the way he plays, Gorges need to add about 25 pounds to be effective 100% of the time, no way you could (try to) play a shutdown role including board play and crease clearing when you are that size.

for offensive D, speed and agility is so important and it helps them so much they can play even if they're on the small side...

pure defensive D needs to be bigger as they work harder physically (so to speak) every single game of the reg. season and P.O.

Subban will be our #1, Tinordi should be given the #2 spot on his line so that other players (Markov and Bouillon) have less minutes, Gorges and Markov should be our #3 and #4, and _______ and Bouillon as our #5 and 6 defensemen (trade for a big physical defensive dman)...Emelin our 7th as he can still bring physicality while not being exposed a weak defensive player (as seen before his injury).

Strongly disagree, every team needs a D like Gorges and this is the first season that I think he under performed. I fully expect him to come back as good as he used to be next year.

Gorges and Diaz should get moved. They are not big enough to play on the Habs D.

So Tinordi is better than Emelin right now... ok! lol

The 25 pounds heavier guy would be that #2-3-4 guy we should go after. Gorges is a perfect #5-6 PK specialist and we should keep him
