Andy's tenure here was distinguished and classy. And for that I am sorry to see him go. However, he's refusal to stand up for team mates on the ice was forever a sore point for me. Good luck, Andy. Have fun in the playoffs.

Best of luck to Andy Greene -- an absolute class act on and off the ice.

Devils fans should be happy with the return, which is excellent. A second round pick is an admirable haul for a 37-year old UFA-to-be D.

Quenneville has a chance to be a lower-pairing, offensive-minded D in the Will Butcher mold. Like Butcher, he is undersized, not very strong or athletic, so he's never going to be a guy you want on the ice versus opposing teams' better forward lines. Also like Butcher, Quenneville's strengths are his excellent offensive instincts and outlet passing. Also like Butcher (sense the trend), his small stature combined with his lack of speed will prevent him from ever being a true, top-4 NHL D. But as a depth player, he has some value.

They even kind of look alike.

The crazy part of this is with Coleman being traded hours later, this trade kind of becomes an afterthought. Greene was a great player for us got a good stretch. I hope him and Tampa face off in the finals.

It becomes an afterthought 'cause of the MASSIVE Return we got (unexpectedly, in my eyes) for Coleman.

At least we got back the 2nd-rounder we lost in the Gusev deal.

Fantastic deal for a player we weren't going to resign.

Best of luck to Andy and thank god Lou was the one behind it in Long Island because there's no way anyone else was giving up a top #60 pick for our ex captain.
You apparently have no idea what you are talking about.

Lou had that string of players he brought back for like 7 years in a row.

Rolston
Holik
Shanahan
Sykora
Fraser
Janssen
Arnott

So him trading a relatively valuable asset for a guy way past his prime is typical Lou.

Please explain, I'd like to understand your pov?
It's a seller's market for D and Greene would have definitely gone for a top 60 pick. Look at TOR tonight. They could now desperately use a Greene. Of course he has a complete NTC, so he would have had to agree to a move elsewhere.

It's a 2021 pick, which is better for the Isles as this year's draft is deeper, and the Isles may need to trade this year's 2nd rounder to get some offense.

Look, good for the Devs in getting a 2nd, but this deal will turn out to be between a good to slight over payment trade for the Isles. They needed a D man on that side that can play PK, eat some minutes, block shots. This is exactly what Greene brings. Good, fair deal for both teams.

We all know what Andy Greene can do on the ice but he's not worth the return Lou gave up to get him. The reason he had to was because Greene had a NMC and Fitz probably played that card.

That and the fact that Lou acquiring a veteran at the deadline is as close to lock as you can get, if his team is likely to make the playoffs, is another reason we got that high of a price.

True, the Islander are giving up an asset they don't really need but I doubt very much that any other GM would be giving up a top #60 pick for a 3rd pairing PK specialist who'll play 15 minutes per game.

Crazy this thread has only 5 pages but Coleman has like 20 because of the bigger return. Greene was a great players and was a very underrated player in his prime years for us. It sucks the back half of his career here he had to play on some lousy teams and was relied on way to much but he was a great person to don the "C" here. I hope next season we roll three assistant captains for the season till we have a worthy leader emerge organically.

Greene wasn’t going to waive his NTC to go anywhere but the Islanders and they still gave up a 2nd round pick. Lou...what are you doing buddy.

Well it was also inevitable. Greene is at the end of the line and we are going no where. The only question was his NTC.

I seriously doubt it tbh, but we'll never find out especially because Greene's list of teams he'd waive his NTC was probably limited to start with.

Greene was horribly underrated in hockey circles throughout his own career (look at how often team USA dissed him), and has been underrated by Devils fans the last few years cause he was playing above where he should have been. Maybe he gets a 2 from someone else but there wouldn't have been that many teams giving us a 2 for a stay-at-home defenseman with no speed, no offensive game and no physicality, and probably none he'd waive his NTC for.

That and the rumors dragging out from Lavoie about a half hour after the Greene trade till the middle of the second period when it became official. There was three hours of speculation while the Greene trade was a quick band-aid pull.

Wonder if he'd be interested in trading Barzal for Zajac, straight up.
