^^ERA definition for each player (this varies depending on when scoring changed significantly)
^^Ovechkin: 2005-present
^^Bobby Hull: Just included pre-1967 expansion. Expansion would include Esposito's 76 goal season, but I don't think that was humanly possible pre-expansion
^^Esposito: I counted '67 to 79-80. Includes expansion but not the 1980s GPG explosion
^^Howe: For raw totals, didn't include Richard's '44-45 because NHL scoring differed too much
^^Richard: For adjusted and league wide, the sample includes Howe's '52.

Players like Mario and Wayne should be either removed from the poll or acknowledged as the de facto greatest given the clear gap between them and the others in overall offensive production.

I mean, everyone knows they're way ahead of everyone else (except maybe Orr and Howe) in terms of overall offensive ability and production. To me (and I'm sure many others), however, it will be interesting to see how they fare if goal scoring and playmaking are split into separate categories.

That's the point. I think we know what a pure goalscorer looks like and what a pure playmaker looks like. That Mario and Wayne have a case for greatest in both means we should qualify "goalscorer" with "pure".

Calling Ovechkin the greatest goalscorer just doesn't sound right.

Gretzky is a greater goal scorer but Lemieux is certainly a better goal scorer.

OV has more rockets than Gretzky and Lemieux combined. Calling him the greatest goal scorer sounds exactly right, no matter how much you try to discredit him or come up with fantasy bs "qualifiers".

Lots of Caps fans who started watching hockey yesterday.
Not trying to bang on Ovi who is the greatest shooter of all time, but his name shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with Gretzky.
If you know, you know.
