Are people still hyped for him? He's not even a good junior player.
Givani has only played like 13 games this year with 8 pts. He really is going through a rough patch. He could be an energy guy that's tough to play against with a bit of scoring.

Not me, really. But he's already signed, so he'll probably be there or Toledo.
In his defense, he's on an awful team.
Well his team is awful and he's not even among the best players, not really a valid excuse for him, makes things even less impressive in my opinion.

Though you are correct in that they already signed him to an ELC like right after he was drafted, not really sure why. I think he should probably go back to junior an an over-age player if he can't even sniff a ppg in his draft +2 year.

Nice to see Turgeon continue to improve his offensive production, his skating has definitely improved the last few years, he should be a solid fourth line guy soon.

I think that's Hronek's first point in forever too.

Both guys had really lean patches.

Hronek has scored 0=1 in both of last two games. Before that he went 4 games without a point.

And Hronek also is a teamleader in plusminus with +8.

If he has been bad, ok, but statistically not so.

Hronek has been what expected maybe alittle more. Hopefully svechnikov is breaking out and gr makes the playoffs

How's Matt Puempel looking?

Guy has scored 11 goals in 21 games for Griffins and is scoring 1.10 pts/game.

Any NHL potential left, or still too slow?

There’s always potential but he probably won’t do anything with it

I stand corrected, 4 game pointless streak which was broken recently. Had a 5 game pointless streak a month or two ago too.

11 points in 26 games and +8 is a very good rookie year so far.

How has Russo looked this season?

Decent enough for the Red Wings to go the Meech/Kindl/Sproul/etc. route and keep him on the roster as a #7/8 next year so they don't risk waivers? Or the Nick Jensen route, where he's OK, but not enough to have to worry about waivers?

Lol at how interchangeable and pretty much meh/worthless any of these guys have been/were/are. Yikes. I'd rather watch Witkowski throw a big hit in 8 minutes of ice time lol.

His worse season here in GR. Starting to come around the past few games, but no where near where he was the past 2 seasons here. Needs to improve if he wants to make it in the NHL, or at least get another contract. At times he plays like he does not want to be in the AHL, and at times he looks lost out there.

Plays on 2nd PP unit and teams are picking up that when he gets the puck, he hangs on to it until a defender comes at him and he tries to make that pass to the open guy, but most of the time he does not execute. No one tries to cover him on the point because he rarely shoots when he is open.

On the d-end, he gets the puck in the corner, but he waits until one or two players is on him and he wants to make that pass to get those 2 guys trapped in their end only it ends up on a 2 on 1 in front of our net and the puck is usually in our net when it happens.

Too much time in Detroit last season must have gotten into his head as he plays like he belongs in Detroit and not in GR and gives little effort here in GR this season and his play shows it both on the ice and on his stats.

Maybe he is past his prime. Russo turns 25 in february.

Ken Holland missed his potential keeping him on the minors. :P

Thanks for the detailed response.

He's still on a two-way for next season, but it sounds like they won't have to worry about him not passing through waivers.

Couple apples for Hronek, otherwise another noshow for our prospects.
Looks like we got outshot like crazy.

Couple apples for Hronek, otherwise another noshow for our prospects.
Looks like we got outshot like crazy.

Officials called this game pretty much one sided for the first 2 periods as every time a Griffins player who check or hit an Ice Hogs player, the ref would raise his right hand and when it happened the other way, play kept playing. Extremely fast paced first period as shot were at a minimum from both sides.

Flood gates opened earlier in the 2nd as one shot after another would find the back of the net. Ice Hogs had several pp chances and took a lot of shots, but mostly from the outside. Coreau had to make some keep stops here and there, but the Griffins kept the Ice Hogs on the outside. Ice Hogs goalie was not that good tonight and finally they beat the Ice Hogs for the first time this season (7th game this season).

Ice Hogs pressured in the third, but a key Griffins pp goal broke their back and they still had the play late in the third in the Griffins end, they could not score again. Griffins (6-0-0-1 last 7 games) start a 3 game road trip with a game tomorrow night against the hottest team in the AHL the Chicago Wolves (11-0-1-1 in the last 13 games) before playing 2 games in Winnipeg early next week against the AHL best team the Moose.

Griffinscentral:

“Filip Hronek played a very good game and was involved in the offense all night. he was credited with a pair of assists, but had a third taken away by a scoring change. He and fellow rookie defender Vili Saarijarvi look better every game and seem to be thriving from the competition for ice time.”
