If the Celtics added both George and Hayward, sure.

People seem to forget the Cavaliers beat the Celtics by an average of almost 26 points in their 4 wins during the Eastern Conference Finals. They are not beating Cleveland by only adding Hayward.

No mention of IT being out huh?

Having IT will probably help, too.

They're also adding Isaiah Thomas ( you know - the team's top scorer who missed the last 3 games of the series ) and Jayson Tatum. I'm not saying that the Celtics will now definitely beat Cleveland in a best of 7 series but they've certainly improved a lot more than Cleveland has this off-season.

If people honestly think Isaiah Thomas makes that much of a difference vs the Cavs, they're free to think so.

Personally, I don't think he makes a big difference against Cleveland.

Explain to me why you don't think adding the team's top offensive player who was their top scorer ( by over 12.5 points per game during the regular season ) and the league's 3rd best regular season scorer would make a huge difference. :dunno:

The guy played game 1 and the game still wasn't close.

He's really good offensively, nobody is disputing that. But the guy is putrid defensively. Like, beyond putrid to the point where he's in the same realm of defending as James Harden. The Cavs would absolutely annihilate him. If you're telling me that the Celtics, with both Hayward and Thomas, want to get into an offensive slugfest vs LeBron and Kyrie, that's fine.

They're still going to be obliterated.

Looks like the easiest way for Boston to add Hayward's salary is to do a sign-and-trade deal with Utah.

from cbssports.com:

The Boston Celtics have been aggressively trying to create enough salary-cap room to give Gordon Hayward the four-year, $128 million maximum contract he agreed upon by discussing trades involving Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley, sources told ESPN.

The Jazz and Celtics discussed on Wednesday the possibility of including Crowder in a sign-and-trade agreement for Hayward, league sources said, which would be cap beneficial for Boston.

Ultimately, Hayward himself will have to agree to a sign-and-trade, which could be perceived as a farewell gift to the Jazz franchise that drafted and developed him into an NBA All-Star. Crowder had been publicly critical of the Celtics pursuit of Hayward during the 2016-'17 season, in part, perhaps, because he'd be the player most impacted by Hayward's arrival.

The Celtics have to make a complicated series of moves to create enough space to sign Hayward to the full max. But because the salary cap did not rise as much as projected, they likely will have to trade one or more of those three players to sign Hayward. Sources told ESPN that Boston has discussed trade concepts involving Smart, Crowder and Bradley with at least half a dozen teams on Wednesday.

IT is overrated. His defense is so bad it negates any offense he provides. Boston stands a better chance against Cleveland with Smart as their starting PG than with IT. Boston should've sold high on IT.

They are also going to lose 3 or 4 key bench players in order to add Hayward.

Back to the OP, someone online was listing the pros of signing with each team and it went something like this

Utah - try and build a winner like Malone did

Boston - reunite with mentor/coach Brad Stevens

Miami - ... he's spent his entire life in Indiana & Utah... it's self explanatory

Can't wait till they give him 35 million a year for five years and after year 2 they need to dump his salary.
