Salomaki has filed for arbitration. He is guaranteed a contract, one way or the other(unless poile is silly enough to walk away)

Arb award has to be a certain amount to walk away, and Salomaki won't come anywhere near that amount. And the only thing reliable about Salomaki is that you can rely on him to be a below replacement level player, he's not any good even going by the standard of 13th forward. Wouldn't be surprised if Brickley is better than him, he should be at least comparable in any case.

Wow that would be a massive disappointment. Also does anyone think we're realistically going to score almost 300 goals?

Preds were 7th in the league at 261. I basically looked at the OP and altered it. It's hard to guess who is going to have a bad year, Smith maybe, but this is a very good team. I could see Hartman bouncing up. He's a late 1st and he has the talent to bounce up lines. I'm also curious about Watson. Every case like his screams a long suspension. Voynov, Varlamov. What makes it different is Watson is an American versus Russian. I want to hear the facts of the case and the result but I'm not counting on him.

As for 300 goals, I could see the Preds jump up to the 290's (depending on Tolvanen and Fiala, and dear God Forsberg) I could see the Leafs jump up to the 300's.

Preds had unsustainable shooting percentages last season. Winnipeg who had more sustainable and truly better offensive players won't even hit close to 300, let alone the Preds.

Near where sand and waves meet.
All of the goals spread among most of the players ....

Forsberg and Arvy in the upper 20s to lower 30s range each. Smith in the low to mid 20s. Fiala is a question mark ... can he maintain his numbers or was last season the anomaly. Turris around 20.

We still don't know how Watson's legal issues will play out or how Tolvanen adjusts to the NHL game for an entire season.

Silly enough? Salomaki type players are called up every year.

Watson will make a jump in production this season. 15 goals is my guess....

What I'm saying is Salomaki is going to get something very reasonable. Poile would be silly just to cut him loose for nothing. If poile was thinking that he wouldnt have qualified him.

And we still dont know if Watson will even be in the team this fall. I hope so, but I'd say its 50/50 at this point

i don't think watson is on the opening night roster.

we need to upgrade the 3rd pair, any upgrades on the wings, and forward depth for the grind. my wishes in order.
gaudreau will be a good depth guy. ive always liked his game.

Forsberg - 35
Johansen - 18
Arvidsson - 29
Fiala - 23
Turris - 24
Smith - 19
Jarnkrok - 15
Bonino - 14
Tolvanen - ? 10?
Sissons - 7
Hartman - 14
If Watson plays - 11

Josi - 15
Ellis - 13
Ekholm - 6
Subban - 16
Irwin - 3
Weber - 2

Those are probably too many goals collectively as a team but I'm more interested in guessing individual players than being accurate on that.

Tolvanen 30+30!

Being half-arsed and half serious. I didn't expect to be excited about Preds games but I watched most of his games in the KHL and damn was this kid good. Hopefully he's getting a good showcase even as soon as next year. Eeli is like a wizard on the right wall at PP. Maybe he'll climb his way up into the first unit. Here's to hoping anyway!

Goals only:

Forsberg 35 - Johansen 15 - Arvidsson 29
Fiala 20 - Turris 17 - Smith 20
Tolvanen 10 - Bonino 12 - Jarnkrok 15
Watson 10 - Sissons 7 - Hartman 10
Salomaki 1

Josi 14 - Ellis 10
Ekholm 10 - Subban 15
Hamhuis 2 - Weber 2
Irwin 1 - Bitetto 1

Total goals: 256 (slightly down from last season's 261)
Goals per game: 3.12

Expectations:
Someone surprises me negatively; possibly Forsberg who we all know is capable of both scoring in bunches but also who goes through cold spells where he tries to do too much himself. I'm a little worried he gets stuck in such a cold stretch early in the season. On the other hand, that has happened before and he responded by being absolutely on fire the second half. We'll see.

Someone surprises me positively, maybe Tolvanen. I feel like 10 goals from the kid on the third line should be doable, but maybe he comes out fired up and really solidifies a place in the roster by finding open space to use his shot and ends up with 15 goals or more. I'm trying to keep expectations low, though.

I expect the total number of goals to be about right, but the numbers per player will probably be way off in a few instances. It seems to usually work out that way.

I'll take that 256 and raise it a few for Tolvanen - if he's anything other than fireworks after last year it'll be disappointing. I'm prepared to be disappointed, but still.

He's 19 going into the season, right? I have pretty low expectations there. When Fiala was 19 he got, I believe, 5 games with the team before being sent back down, with one goal scored. When Forsberg was 19 he got 13 games with the team and scored one goal and four assists and was a -8. And I don't think any of us are complaining about how those guys have developed. (I'm not comparing birth dates - just looking at current ages and counting backwards to see which season we were going into when those players were 19 on this date.)

I gave a lot of thought to projecting him for 1-2 goals total, but decided it's pretty likely he sticks with the team. But it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get 5-6 games and then go down to the Admirals to work on his overall game. And that wouldn't be disappointing. It's just part of development.

I understand your point, the NHL is a completely different kettle of fish to any other league and he is young, which is partly why I said I'm 'prepared to be disappointed' - but I also think Tolvanen's a totally different level of prospect to Fiala and when Forsberg was 19 he hadn't broken records in the KHL. It's not fair or necessarily even justified to expect fireworks from him, but I think he has the potential for them and so of course it'll be disappointing to a degree if he doesn't produce them. That doesn't mean writing him off or turning on him at all, just... disappointing in the same way I'm disappointed every morning I don't wake up next to Rose McIver.
