tbh, at this point I'd sell Batherson at profit. Automatic fix in the cap and I believe we could cover the output with Senko/Kubalik and a graduated prospect or 2 - not to mention Pinto. Might be our best bet to get out of this even-steven. Could even net us a 3rd 1st rounder which would be a game changer at the trade deadline or even just restocking the prospect pool.

It's a solution of sorts "this year", but Kubalik's and Tarasenko's terms are just one year. I guess its a dichotomy between short term and long term.

Dorion is staying. People need to own up to their "he will be fired on the first day" rhetoric.... now "he is going to get fired soon" LOL

Actually with the process taking till training camp many have said its likely he is shipped out at the end of the year when there are more candidates to replace him.

Staois coming in will be a big change for PD who will have final say on any decision. Can't wait

Injuries were certainly a big problem last year. But rarely does an NHL team escape without them. I don't have the stats on hand but in terms of man games lost based on quality of player, the Sens were among the hardest hit teams certainly. But so was Florida and so was Las Vegas, even moreso than the Sens IIRC.

None of this is perfect, but yeah, towards the upper end on most measures, albeit not the only playoff/contending team up there.

I think this is a terrible idea.

Drake, when healthy, is one of the best contracts in the league and adds more than just points being a physical player as well.

You think 3 players could make up for his production? He would leave a glaring hole on our right side.

I like the idea of adding another prospect or #1 pick but not at the expense of Batherson. He is part of the leadership and core of this team.

Big, hard no from me. Way better options to get through this, including letting Pinto sit. Greig was put into the #2C spot last year when Pinto was healthy because he couldn't make it work and I have confidence Greig could handle #3 minutes pretty well.

they have 12 forwards as of now... this includes Sokolov... and 120 K in cap.

If Sok is send down and Greig up.. Greig will eat up every last dime of cap.. and so they will have 12 forwards and zero cap space.

no spare forward, no room for minor injuries robbing them of a player for a game for two.. Cap gymnastics will allow a 13th forward once in a while. It requires that you put players on waivers..

This is not about Pinto.. this is about forward 12 and 13.. regardless of who they are.

The Sens need 2-2.5 M free.. and need 3-3.5 M free if they hope one of these two forwards is Pinto.

It did in a way, but there's an argument they should have paid up the higher cost earlier over acquiring DeBrincat and had Chychrun for most of the season once he came back. Any extra cost is basically nullified by the loss in the Cat in/out and a defenseman was a bigger need at the time.

That happened with Tkachuk and now Pinto.

Sometimes you want your GM to engage in tough negotiations if the ask from the player's camp is unreasonable.

But from the sounds of it the Ducks are trying to rip off Zegras with an absurdly low offer and may end up pissing him off enough to have him request a trade or look to leave ASAP.

That said, they do not have to force a bad trade today when a better alternative may be available to them in a week or two. It sucks for Pinto to miss training camp, but he can sit for a two weeks if it saves us from burning a premium asset, be it a first or a high end prospect.

We still have 2 weeks before someone can go on LTIR. A lot can happen considering the injury proneness of many of our guys. No rush and Pinto can sweat his way into a team friendly deal while we are at it.

Wonder when they hire a true cap specialist. I don’t think they have had to do any real long-term cap planning for a while, have not been close to it in ages.

First time the Sens bump up against the cap and they manage to be "in a pickle" Other teams are playing way over, using LTIR, whatever tricks they can. With all the big contracts kicking in, the Sens will need to be proactive instead of cleaning up messes.

GOOD! Its about time. Awful way to treat a young player that has done nothing but show he deserves a to be upped in a new contract.
It will get solved.
Dorion will be replaced at GM at the end of the season at the latest and hopefully Pinto can continue towards being a dominant 2 way C that is a force at the dot as he was at UND and Dorion becomes a minor annoyance of a distant memory

Only 2 teams are projected to be over the cap when LTIR kicks in (Toronto and Tampa). Tampa has no issues, they'll just waive and send down Haydn Fleury and/or Logan Brown. Toronto will happily bury guys like Timmins and Gambrell.

Ottawa has the fewest players signed (20/23 - 30 teams are at 22+) and just 120k of space.

Right now, the Senators are in the worst cap position of any team in the league, considering how many contracts they have, how much space they have, and who's left to sign.

That's why it'll be so hard to make a trade to move anyone. Everyone knows we're "in a pickle".

Good. He's gotten a ton of praise because he's done a lot of good here, especially this last year, but there's nobody else that's responsible for the position theyre in and he deserves all the criticism for it just the same.
