Islanders Acquire Adam McQuaid
DLmcquaid_adam_tight.jpg

New York Islanders GM PattyB's Press Release:

"The New York Islanders are happy to announce that we have acquired Adam McQuaid from the Boston Bruins in-exchange for Matt Donovan.

While our organization owns one of the best defensive prospect pools in the league, we felt as though we were sorely lacking a veteran crease clearing presence. In McQuaid, we get a guy who will fill that role while also providing us with some help on the right side of our defense. At only 27 years old, we think that he will be an important piece of our defense for many years.

We would like to wish Matt Donovan luck in Boston, and we fully expect him to develop into a solid offensive defenseman at the NHL-level, but at this point we felt that this was a trade we had to make."

The Dallas Stars have acquired C/LW Ryan O'Reilly from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Brenden Dillon and forward prospect Radek Faksa.

We will have another deal announced shortly. Still looking to get a top 6 winger and top 4 RHD, but may consider a LHD if there are no good options available. Alex Goligoski, Trevor Daley, Cody Eakin, Jack Campbell, Brett Ritchie, Jason Dickinson, Ludvig Bystrom, our 2014 1st and 2014 2nd are available.

Nice deal guys. A forward core of Seguin, Benn and O'Reilly ain't too shabby.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

:stars :flames

The Calgary Flames have acquired right winger Alex Chiasson from the Dallas Stars, in exhange the Stars receive defenseman T.J Brodie.

"Alex Chiasson is a RW with really high upside, we believe he has top line potential for us. He's a big body who skates well, can make plays and can shot the puck as well. Just a solid all-around talent. Good luck to T.J in Dallas".

Thanks to IslesRock4 for the smooth negotiations.

The Calgary Flames have recalled defenseman Chad Billins from the Abbotsford Heat.

We're looking at re-tooling our roster going into next season. Sell off a few pieces and get younger and cheaper.

OTB:
Milan Michalek (top-6 LW on an expiring contract, willing to retain 50% of salary)
Craig Anderson (has brought many teams to the playoffs recently and is affordable and signed past this season)
Matt Kassian (tough-guy that can throw with the league's heavyweights)
Chris Phillips (long-time Sen and stay-at-home d-man who can anchor your 3rd pairing, willing to retain 50% salary)
Joe Corvo (PP threat and puck-mover, cheap 3rd pairing/PP specialist)

Listening to offers on:
Jason Spezza (Would need some high-quality young NHLers / High picks / blue-chip prospects coming back, plus NTC, so would need to be a playoff team)
Bobby Ryan (ditto)
Jared Cowen (looking to potentially move him for a similar age / upside W
Colin Greening
Patrick Wiercioch
Marc Methot
Cory Conacher
Mika Zibanejad
Kyle Turris

Looking for:
High-quality young NHLers @ W,C or D/ High picks in 2014 or 2015 / Blue-chip prospects

Confirm. Bieksa has been an integral part of this team's core for years, a staple on the blueline and in our community. However we feel it's time for a core change in Vancouver and this offer expedites this process. We feel David, Luca and the 1st are 3 great components to build with.

We wish all the best to Jordan.

The Bruins are also putting Greg Campbell on the trade block.

Have received some solid offers for Shea Weber but nothing that were jumping at to move him at this point. If you're interested in acquiring possibly the league's best overall defenseman be prepared to part with a top line center. May look at moving Seth Jones instead for a young, top line center if there are any interested teams.

David Legwand, Matt Cullen, Paul Gaustad are all available for teams looking for help at center. MDZ could also be moved for a young forward for any teams looking for a puck-moving defenseman.

:bruins BRUINS ACQUIRE DAN GIRARDI

The third trade of the day for Boston is a doozy. The Bruins have acquired Dan Girardi and Michael St. Croix for Joe Morrow and a 1st and 3rd draft picks both in this upcoming draft.

The Bruins are very excited to bring in a veteran presence that will solidify our teams defense with the recent loss of Denis Seidenberg.

We wish all the best to Joe in New York.

The rangers confirm.

We were not able to re-sign Dan before the deadline and therefore felt we had top move him for what we felt was a fair package. We feel Morrow has top-4 upside and the 1st and 3rd will help replenish our system moving forward.

While offers for Kesler/Edler continue to flood in...we're receiving a fair amount of interest in Jannik Hansen. One of the league's best even 2nd/3rd line strength producers, and a damn good PKer. David Booth can be had for next to nothing for those interested.

We've re-considered and will field offers for the Staal brothers, along with Jeff Skinner. We'll only move one of the Staals. This doesn't mean we're going into rebuild mode. Also be aware that both Staals have full NTCs. To move one we'd be looking to add players like:

-- Rock-solid bottom-6 forwards who play now, contribute in many ways, and are very strong killing penalties.
-- A top2 defensemen who plays a defense-first style, big minutes, and excels on the PK.
-- Top prospects and high picks (forwards and goalies)
-- A proven NHL backup goalie

We won't move one of them too quickly (decide by Saturday at the earliest) so we can see what the interest is. Please, I don't want spare parts or UFAs unless they're low cost throw-ins, so don't add those types to an offer for Staal. If you need cap space I'll consider retaining salary or taking a cap dump (if I have the space).

The "Nuge" is headed to Music City

The Nashville Predators and Edmonton Oilers have completed a blockbuster trade of two young stars in the making. Headed to Nashville is young center and former 1st overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins while headed North of the border is mammoth defenseman Seth Jones.

"With our defense led by Shea Weber and young emerging talent in Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis, Michael Del Zotto and Mathias Ekholm, we felt we could afford to make a move such as this. In RNH we feel we have addressed perhaps our teams biggest weakness and an area we feel we have never truly addressed in this organization, the #1 center position. We wish Seth all the best in Edmonton and look forward to many years of Ryan leading our offense."

The Calgary Flames acquired Mark Stone, Darren Kramer and Mark Borowiecki in exchange of Max Reinhart and Tyler Wotherspoon.

"Mark Stone is an offensive machine. A big body with an off the chart hockey IQ, great vision and playmaking abilities and can scores as well. Goes into the dirty area and protect the puck very well. Very high upside".

"Darren Kamer is a very solid bottom 6 player. The Alberta native is a great fighter, very willing fighter. Kramer also has a decent offensive game and and is a great leader".

"Mark Borowiecki is a beast on the back end. A natural leader who plays really physical, hits and fights.Very solid in his own-end, moves the puck well adequately and decent offensive game. Good luck to Max and Tyler in Ottawa".

Thanks to NowitzkisBrownNugget for the smooth negotiations.
