The Florida Panthers have acquired defensemans Simon Despres and Philip Larsen (rights), Edmonton Oilers 4th round pick in 2015 NHL Entry Draft in exchange of forward Scottie Upshall and their 2nd round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

"Simon Despres is exactly what we were looking for. A young NHL defenseman who can help us winning game right now, and who still have lots of upside. Philip Larsen is another young NHL defenseman with decent upside who'll give us depth. Good luck to Scottie in Edmonton".

Montreal Canadiens have sign to entry level contracts recent draft picks Dalton Thrower, Brady Vail, Mac Bennett, and Jacob de la Rose.

In de la Rose's case a decision will be made during camp as to where he will play. We leave every door open, it could be the NHL, AHL, OHL or going back to Sweden for a final year. In Thrower, Vail and Bennett case, they are expected to battle for a spot in Montreal but likely to play for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.

The Winnipeg Jets are happy to announce they have signed forward, and recent 2nd overall pick, Sam Reinhart, to a 3 year, entry level contract. Sam is expected to challenge for a top 6 forward spot this upcoming season.

Leafs Make Their Last Move; Send Gunnarsson to Edmonton

The Toronto Maple Leafs concluded their off-season today, sending defenceman Carl Gunnarsson to the Edmonton Oilers in the final move before the upcoming year.

"While we love Carl Gunnarsson we managed to bring Dan Girardi on board who we feel is an upgrade, and another right handed shot. As a result, we had to move Carl and Edmonton was very interested."

In exchange for Gunnarsson, the Leafs acquired their own 1st round selection in the 2015 Entry Draft that was sent in the James Reimer trade, as well as defensive prospect David Musil.

"Edmonton will be a better team with Carl, and we were able to secure a 3rd 1st round selection next year while also adding David Musil who will go straight to the Marlies. We feel this deal works very well for both sides."
