The Ottawa Senators have completed a blockbuster deal: all-star forward Loui Eriksson has been acquired from the Dallas Stars. The price to acquire a player of Loui's calibre did not come cheap though, as the Sens sent Mika Zibanejad, Jared Cowen, Matt Puempel and Ben Bishop back to the Stars.

"The opportunity to acquire such a significant player arose as a result of a few moves we made prior to completing this trade. We now feel that we have a legitimate replacement for the inevitable retirement of captain Daniel Alfredsson, and we cannot express how happy we are to have a player of Loui's calibre here in Ottawa. We believe that he will fit the mould of our team very well, and with an already large Swedish contingent presently on the roster that will only help to ease him in to our lineup. Even after completing such a trade we still have a considerably impressive array of youth coming through, and we still managed to keep our first round pick in this years draft. We would like to wish Mika, Jared, Matt and Ben all the best with their fresh start in Dallas."
